Sohyun often felt alone, isolated. She didn't see Jisung much once he got to high school, he was too consumed in his own life.

Her parents were hardly home throughout her childhood, so she was raised by a nanny. First, in China, it was Han Dong, a kind woman who always treated Sohyun special. They had a great connection, like Han Dong could understand what it was like to be her.

Sohyun later realized that Han Dong related to her because she reminded her of herself, after attending her wedding in Taiwan. After that, she didn't see much more of her.

She spent too much time alone, and it made her feel anxious. This palpable loneliness, it's unimaginable to most, unless they've been in such depths of darkness.

That's why she started spending copious hours online, anything to dull the numbness, the emptiness of being alone. Her ability to speak multiple languages, aiding her in connecting.

And she did connect, but nothing palpable. That's how she ended up at that fateful party, the moment that changed her life. The moment she laid eyes on Xinyu, on the little girl that changed her life, now a grown woman, that hole that resided so deeply within her disappeared.

And instead, there was a warmth. One that radiated from her heart, throughout her whole body. And her mind became flooded with thoughts of Xinyu, almost obsessively so.

And everything reminded her of Xinyu, everything a memory of the sweet interactions. Even when Xinyu had doubted things, wanted to return to the ways that the world had convinced her into believing, Sohyun still felt just as enamored.

Finally, finally Xinyu was tangible, in her grasps. Nothing she would ever want to change about this moment, as they kissed under the moonlight. But, things hadn't been as joyous for Xinyu.

As the weight and guilt crashed down onto her like a plane, as Chenle's text sat on unread. The more she felt badly about her actions, the less she wanted to confront them.

Instead, she reverted to the solace that Sohyun provided her. Searched for that beauty, because she knew that if she were to tell Chenle, it would become her own personal hell.
