Lan Wangji brought his Wei Ying to the bed, not willing to experiment with something that he had craved for millennia. His eyes glowed golden as his soul energy throbbed with the need to complete the bond that would bind the two cultivators. That energy was tangible, like a caress reaching out to Wei Wuxian's Dantian, latching on to his qi.
"How can I feel you in my Dantian?" Wei Ying asked.
"It's our souls connecting," Lan Wangji explained.
"Why can't I feel yours?" Wei Ying asked in confusion as he sent forth his spiritual cognizance to scan Lan Wangji.
"Give it time. It's a start. We need to be both bare for the next part," Lan Wangji instructed. Clothes flew off in a flurry as they hungrily took in each other's bodies.
"There's a block," Wei Wuxian exclaimed in panic. "I don't understand. We are soulmates. There's nothing hidden between us," he demanded.
Lan Wangji noted the scar near the stomach which still was a light pink against the rest of Wei Ying's skin. It was probably a bit higher than the scar that was left after the removal of the golden core.
"I may have hidden something from you," Lan Wangji murmured.
"You wouldn't. I am Wei Wuxian, the other part of Wangxian, your soulmate," Wei Ying reminded. "You hiding something from me is equivalent to you hiding from yourself," he demanded.
Lan Wangji hung his head before his soulmate. Wei Wuxian noted the lines rising from his shoulder and leading to the back.
"Why do you have scars on your shoulder?" he asked in surprise.
"Let's not focus on those, shall we. We need to get rid of the block first," Lan Zhan requested.
Wei Ying shook his head. "I want to see," he insisted making Lan Zhan sit and turn around. Faded lines covered his back.
"What happened to you?" he asked.
Lan Zhan shook his head. It was a very long time ago. The scars don't go because the whip used was spelled.
Something jolted in Wei Ying's consciousness, "The Lan Discipline Whip, does it still exist in this time?" he asked in awe.
Lan Wangji shook his head. "No, it was destroyed with the Cultivation world. Wei Ying, I didn't want you to find out like this, but the truth is I ... I never got reincarnated. I never died. I am immortal," he said.
Wei Ying blinked and then sat up. He pulled the shirt from the corner of the bed and covered himself.
"Wei Ying, say something. I know you think that I have deceived you, but this is the lie I live. Every forty years I change my identity to avoid detection. My current identity is Lan Zhouchen's younger son and Yangyang's older brother. I never told you that I reincarnated. I know you assumed, and I didn't correct you,...May be that is the spiritual block."
Wei Ying put a finger on his lips as Lan Wangji looked on with desperation, eyes filled with tears as he tried to convince his soulmate of his sincerity.
"You waited for me for thousands of years? Four thousand to be more accurate?" Wei Ying asked.
Lan Zhan nodded.
"You're immortal but I am not. Do you realize what that means for us, for you?" Wei Ying questioned.
"It means I need to make you immortal or die trying, nothing else. I can't imagine a single more day without you," Lan Wangji explained.
"I'm overwhelmed," Wei Wuxian exclaimed.
"Well, that's a far better reaction than what I anticipated," Lan Zhan confessed.
"How was your heavenly tribulation like?" Wei Wuxian asked as the thought hit him.
"I was put into a trance where I had to witness your death. I saw how your own ghosts ripped you to shred as you relished in the pain they inflicted upon you," Lan Wangji recalled with a shudder.
"I was your trial?" Wei Ying exclaimed.
"There was nothing that heaven or earth could hurt me with more than your pain and suffering. I waded through that because I knew that once I reached immortality, I could wait for you to be reborn and here we are," Lan Zhan admitted.
"Dual cultivation... silver core... it's.." Wei Ying guessed.
"Yes, it's the steppingstone to attain immortality," Lan Wangji explained.
"So, do you want to begin now?" Wei Ying asked tentatively.
"If you are comfortable letting me touch you," Lan Zhan admitted.
"Come on, Lan Zhan. You being an immortal doesn't change who you are. In fact, it makes you more familiar. But I can't believe how much you have changed. I don't think you would recognize yourself now," Wei Ying teased.
"Am I more acceptable to Wei Ying now?" Lan Wangji asked with hesitation.
"I should be the one asking you that. After all it was always you who hated me, wanted to lock me up in Gusu and punish me," Wei Ying reminds.
Lan Wangji shook his head vehemently. "You are wrong. I wanted to take you to Gusu but it's because I didn't want to lose you again after your three-month absence after the fall of Lotus Pier. I wanted to hide you and keep you safe, from others and from yourself. I didn't understand anything about yin cultivation then, only that it harms the body and the soul. I wanted to protect you from that. When I couldn't, I turned to Yin cultivation myself to understand it better and I mastered it," Lan Wangji admits.
Wei Wuxian looked down, regret washing over him. "I guess I misunderstood you then. But I don't regret fighting for the Wens. Someone had to. I regret losing to my inner demons and leaving you alone," Wei Ying confessed.
"No more regrets," Lan Zhan prompted.
Wei Wuxian nodded. "No more regrets," he repeated, sliding the shirt off his back all over again.
"Show me how much you missed me Lan Zhan," Wei Wuxian prompted sending out his spiritual cognizance once more and finding Lan Wangji's dantian open and receptive.
"I am all yours," Lan Zhan promised as he guided himself home with a single thrust, their bodies tuned to each other's needs.
A/N I know this is just a filler chapter before we get to the juicy bits but that bit hanging between them seemed uncomfortable. Do vote and comment and check out the other Wangxian stories on my profile.
