Chapter Twenty Three

After a full out flour war Derek and I just cooked breakfast and cuddled for the rest of the morning. It actually felt nice to just be able to chill and relax. I hadn’t even thought about Jared and his horrible plans. I still didn’t understand why he was so dead set on me being his mate.

Maybe it was true that when a werewolf loses their mate, they get attached to someone else. One thing that I would always know was that I loved Derek. He is the perfect mate. My match. My one and only. I smiled to myself, mine.

“Whisper, get in here!” Derek called out from the living room.

“I’m still making popcorn!” I hollered back at him from the kitchen.

It was about 8 o’clock and Derek and I had just decided to spend the rest of the night watching movies and eating popcorn. We had both wanted to watch a different kind of movie genre. I wanted to watch a romantic comedy, The Proposal, with Sandra Bullock. He on the other hand wanted to watch a horror movie. We argued for like ten minutes before I finally decided that we would settle this disagreement by playing rock paper scissors.

Sure, it was a little childish, but it worked because I won. Him being the sore loser he was, told me that I had to make the popcorn since I had won. I rolled my eyes and just went with it. Sometimes he was such a baby. The least I could do was make the popcorn.

“What’s that smell?” Derek asked popping up in the doorway.

I glanced at the microwave and read the timer. Crap! In a rush, I pushed stop and opened the door to the stupid thing. I opened the bag of popcorn. Yuck, it was burnt. I presented the bag to Derek with a sheepish grin.

“Bon appétit?”

He wrinkled his nose. “You can cook and bake, but you don’t know how to make popcorn with extra butter?”

I glared at him, “If you didn’t have this stupid high tech thing maybe I wouldn’t have burnt it! How am I supposed to know which button is for popcorn?”

“It’s not that hard to use Sweetheart.”

I scowled at him, “Well, if you would have stopped calling my name so much and distracting me then I wouldn’t have burnt the popcorn.”

He chuckled and shot me an easy grin. “How about I just take this outside so the whole house won’t smell like burnt popcorn?”

I crushed the bag closer to my chest. “No, I’ll go take the popcorn outside. You can make another bag. I’m done trying to figure this thing out.”

He held up his hand in a mock salute, “You’re the boss.”

“You got that right.” I growled playfully.

He growled right back at me and pulled me so I was against him. My wolf was purring up a storm. The only thing that was separating our bodies was the burnt bag of popcorn. I looked into his eyes. His gaze was focused solely on my lips which were eager to meet his. The popcorn was forgotten.

Both of us leaned in and our lips met. It was a sweet kiss. The kind of kiss where you couldn’t help but to savor every last moment. We pulled back looking at each other. He was looking at me with so much intensity. I couldn’t help but to look at my shoes.
