they had been walking for hours. eleanor's feet hurt bad, especially because her shoes were too small. she wanted to turn around and go back to the truck but after seeing that picture of glenn's wife, and the look of love in his eyes, she knew deep down she was doing the right thing.

sure, if they got eugene to washington he could save the world, but there's no point in saving the world if they couldn't live with themselves after it.

glenn seemed like a good person so he must've had good friends. the only friend eleanor could really remember was a girl named abigail, who they met on the road and she was pretty sure isaac was probably in love with, but they lost her.

she hoped that she would find new friends soon, more friends her age and more people she could relate to.

"i'm well aware it sounds bananas." eugene says, "but looking at the fossil record, knowing what i know about this infection, you cannot say for certain it isn't what killed off the dinosaurs. now, do i believe that's what happened? no. but it's enjoyable as hell to think about an undead ankylosaur going after a diplodocus. that there is a video game worth a pre order."

"that just doesn't make any sense." eleanor looks down at the ground, spotting something copper. she picks it up, showing it to eugene.

"oh, hell, yeah." he says. "score. a few more of those, a little aluminium foil and some bleach, you got yourself some volts, sister. a homemade battery."

"take it, nerd."

the next day was all the same. walking along train tracks, eleanor complaining because her feet hurt, isaac complaining because she was complaining, eugene talking about nonsense.

that was until eleanor spotted something at the side of the road. it was a terminus post, but it had blood smeared all over it in big letters.

"glenn!" she yelled, pushing past him and running up to the sign. "glenn, glenn! glenn, look!"

"you wanna say his name one more time, girl?" abraham chuckled, rubbing his daughters head.

glenn exhaled loudly before sprinting down the tracks, not caring for the people behind. eventually he slowed down and they all caught up to him, walking even further.

"hold up!" abraham called out, "were stopping here. tired is slow, slow is dead."

glenn looks up at the sun, "it's barely noon."

"i don't give a monkey's left nut." he replied, "none of us has slept more than a couple hours straight since we went all casey jones and if i hear my daughter complain about her feet hurting one more time, imma lose it." he glares over to her. "this place looks safe. we need to rest."
