Sunlight crept through the slits of the blinds, casting soft stripes across Hikari Mitsumori's room. The pale rays warmed her skin, gently nudging her from the depths of sleep.
She stirred, turning away from the light with a quiet groan, her tousled hair spilling over her pillow. It was a Saturday, a day she usually relished, but today was different.
Today was the day of the U.A. recommendation exam.
With a sigh, Hikari cracked one eye open, taking in the familiar chaos of her room. Clothes were strewn across the floor, remnants of late-night study sessions and hasty outfit changes. Her desk was cluttered with notes, sketches of potential hero suits, and a half-finished cup of coffee that had long gone cold.
She was all too familiar with the disarray; it was her organized chaos, a reflection of her ever-spiraling thoughts.
"Alright, Hikari, time to get up," she murmured to herself, pushing the covers away. She swung her legs over the edge of the bed, her bare feet meeting the cool wooden floor, sending a shiver up her spine. A casual stretch followed, her body arching gracefully like a cat waking from a nap, and for a moment, she savored the stillness of the morning.
She stood and wandered over to her closet, rifling through her wardrobe. After a moment, she pulled out a fitted black tank top and a pair of dark, stretchy pants. It wasn't anything flashy—she had learned that comfort was key—but she liked the way the outfit felt on her skin. She threw her hair into a messy bun, a few strands rebelliously framing her face.
As she moved to the kitchen, the aroma of coffee wafted through the air, wrapping around her like a warm hug. She could hear her mother bustling around, humming softly to herself. The sound was comforting, a reminder of home.
Hikari entered the kitchen to find her mother, still in her pajamas, flipping pancakes with a practiced ease.
"Morning, sleepyhead," her mother said with a smile, glancing over her shoulder. "Nervous?"
"Not really," Hikari replied, leaning against the counter, crossing her arms casually. "Just another day, right?"
Her mother raised an eyebrow, a mix of amusement and disbelief etched across her face. "Another day? Hikari, this is the U.A. exam. It's a big deal!"
"Yeah, but it's just the first step," Hikari replied, shrugging lightly. "I mean, I've trained for this. I can handle it. Kira managed it, so I can as well."
With that, she grabbed a plate of pancakes from the stack, the sweet, buttery smell mingling with the coffee. Hikari took a seat at the small kitchen table, the sunlight now pouring in, illuminating the room and casting a warm glow around her.
She bit into the fluffy pancake, savoring the taste, the moment of calm before the storm.
