The sky darkened as the night continued. I could hear the rain falling on the glistening roof, melodies of it scattering around the garden, disturbing the silence of the night. The wind had picked up since then, slipping through the opened window in my room, rustling the papers on my dresser in the process. I was half asleep as the wonder was surrounding the night. And despite that, all I could think about in this slumber was the way his skin felt when it touched mine, the way his hair fell onto his forehead, the way he could influence and control my every waking hour without doing much in the process. I wanted to know, needed to know how he could do this, or even if he knew the consequences he had on me.
I must've fallen asleep but not until early in the morning given the way I felt when I woke up. My head was still very much stuck in the fog of last night as I opened my eyes. The sun had already reached its peak. The breeze that had covered the island last night still prominent in the morning air but the rays had cut through them, showering the grounds with their heat. I looked around once more, contemplating the thought of going back to sleep before gaining every ounce of energy I had in me to get up before making my way downstairs, dreaming of the coffee that was occupying my mind at the time.
- Hi. - I said as I laid my eyes on my mom who was already in her work clothes.
- Hey, honey. – She said with a small smile. - I was about to wake you up.
- What's with the... - I looked at her, furrowing my eyebrows before motioning towards her clothes.
- I have to go to the mainland. - She answered while frantically searching the couch. - There was a small issue with the paper, nothing serious. – She added.
- Okay. – I whispered to myself before walking towards the kitchen. – Do you need me with anything?
- No, no. – She replied, following me to the kitchen as well. – Just boring paper things.
- Fine. - I replied as I poured myself a cup. – What are you looking for? – I asked as I observed her frantic movements in the room.
- My keys. - She said and looked over the kitchen again. - I had it last night...
- Did you check the study? – I asked, pointing at the hallway.
- Good idea. - She said and practically ran towards the room. – Got it. - I heard moments after.
- I helped. - I said with a small smile as she ran into the kitchen, bag and keys in hand.
- What would I do without you? – She said with a smirk and gave me a rushed hug. – I'm so late. Call me if you need anything, okay? – She asked and bolted towards the door.
- I will. - I replied. - Bye mom.
I had finished my second coffee when I finally got up and walked towards the backyard. The weather was nice despite last night's ventures. The sun was shining and the wind had calmed down since the morning. I wanted to do something outside which was an odd thought for many reasons. I picked up my phone, contemplating if I should've called someone, the thought I threw back into my mind seconds later. I headed straight to my room and rushed to the shower. Going to the beach, just having a small getaway sounded really nice in that moment, having drinks on the beach, listening to music, sunbathing. I didn't really do anything in that manner since we got here, plus taking an advantage of the country club membership my mom practically forced me into wouldn't hurt, right? I grabbed my beach bag, throwing god knows what in it and rushed towards the door.
It was a refresh from the last few days. The weather was nice. The small breeze that lingered around in the air cut through the scorching heat from the sun. The waves were still present into the glistening water but I could feel the warmth of the water even from the distance. I guess my idea to go to the beach wasn't as original as I had thought as I caught a glimpse of circling crowd in the far distance. The pastel bodies were revolving around the bar area that was occupying the far middle corner of the beach. The hot summer sun was waving the air until it reached the water, the half full cups of colorful drinks decorated the remaining sand that was idle from the blue and white umbrellas and the wooden beach chairs. I finally found one that was not occupied, a bit more distanced from the heart of the crowd. I looked around, satisfied by the location before finally sitting down.
