It was going to be easy, that's what Remus had said at eight am in the back of the bewitched Ministry car Lyall had commandeered for the journey to London. You see, Remus had planned their announcement out in several simple steps. Now 'simple' in Remus' terms actually meant, 'far too complicated and exhausting for your own good' and you'll understand why in just a moment, for Remus was busy scribbling out a diagram on a crumpled piece of parchment.
Step 1: They'd find a compartment together — like they do every year — then wait for James and Sirius, later Peter, to find them once the ten minutes of chaos on the Hogwarts Express calmed down.
Step 2: James and Sirius are the loudest duo to ever set foot in Hogwarts, you'd hear them coming from a mile away. At that moment, Jo will sit beside Remus — affectionately — and they'd hold hands.
Step 3: Engage in conversation just as the door slides open, Remus will compliment her and Jo will pretend get really shy, even though she insists that they will never believe them if Jo does that.
Step 4: After they get over the initial shock, Jo will retell the moment they got together on the 30th of July and how Remus confessed his feelings for her, they've been too busy loving each other up to write about the news.
Step 5: Remus will kiss Jo on the cheek and then wait for Sirius and James to pay up.
"You've gone mad Remus, no one will believe this shit!" Jo scoffs quietly, trying to avoid the attention of their perspective parents, chattering away in the seats in front of them.
"They will! I spent a long time on this Jo!" Remus insists.
"No! It's so obviously calculated, get a grip! People in relationships don't do that!"
"And how would you know that Jo?" Remus mocks, snatching his plan away from her. "I don't remember seeing you lovin' it up these past five years! And no — Love Story doesn't count as romantic knowledge on relationships, we saw that at the theatre in Cardiff together!"
"Don't you insult Love Story to me! That is the best romance in this here decade, you love it just as much — no — you love it more than I do!"
"Preposterous! I only went with you because you begged me for a week straight!" Remus said, his cheeks turning pink.
"And who took me to see it again at the rerun last year? How d'you think Prongs will like hearin' all about that?"
"You little shit, don't you fuckin' dare." Remus looked as pink as a Pygmy Puff at this point, resorting to attacking Jo at the back of the car until it shook so hard on a corner turn that Hope yelled for them to "sit their little arses down before she makes them walk all the way to Hogwarts." This shut them up, though they still silently bickered about the nature of Remus' awful plan that he expected Jo to go through with.

"Right then. You two behave, it's NEWT years now so no more detentions." Lyall stands with his fists on his waist, clearly trying not to smirk as his wife nods agreeingly to what he says.
"Now Lyall, if I am recalling correctly you managed to set a series of fire dwelling salamanders in the Slytherin common room when you were taking your NEWTs. Ah — no arguments, your wife deserves to know — yes, I'm still salty about it because they had to bunk in the Hufflepuff dorms!" Jo's mother, Shelley, tuts. "Now — Remus, as prefect, I expect you to keep this little geneth in line long enough to complete her exams next year, I don't want anymore stories about diving off the Astronomy tower."
"Off you pop then chicks..." Hope sniffled, "Remus—"
"Stay safe, I know mam. It's been five years without an incident, have a little faith in your son." Remus chuckles into a bone crushing hug with his mother.
