Not So Sweet

Chapter 5

POV Anabella
I had so much fun with the tour of UConn it really is a nice campus. Also KK is so funny she always had me laughing over something she said or did. We were finishing up the tour and ended at Gample where they had tables with refreshments, a Photo Booth, they even had a DJ and some alcoholic drinks there. It truly looked they set this place up for us to have a party, the rest of the women's basketball team were there waiting for us to show up. Aria and I made our way straight for the drinks.
"Ooo look they have some options for us, what kinda vibe are you in tonight Ana? They have mikes, beer, white claw and truly." Aria says looking over the table.
"Definitely some good options I wasn't planning on drinking tonight but I suppose when in Rome" I say while I grab a black cherry white claw and crack it open. Aria laughs while she grabs a mikes and takes a long swig from it.
I see KK approaching us with a wide grin on her face.
"Hey, I see y'all have already helped yourselves. Just so you know the Dean of students will be here to say a little welcome speech and then the DJ will start getting the party started" she says while doing a dance at the end. We just laugh at her. "You Anabella better save a dance for me because girl I got a feeling you gunna be swarmed by people really soon once everyone else gets here" she points at me make me blush a bit I turn my head and make eye contact with Paige, which makes me blush even more.
"Alright now that all the groups are here I would just like to welcome everyone. We are so excited to have such a talented group among us and making our school great! The Basketball team already know this but by the end of the night we will be pairing one music student with a player just to insure that you know you have someone here for you always. Please help yourself to drinks and food, we will also be having music and later in the night maybe even some karaokeee. Just have a good time and get to know each other" the man on stage said once he left music started to play. Nothing crazy still giving us a chance to mix and mingle, KK and Aria were talking about something I had no clue about so I decided to step outside for a minute to get some air. I find a bench not to far away and take a seat loving watching the sun set over the campus.
"Um hey Bella I'm surprised to see you here" internally I cringe there is only one person I know that calls me that. I slowly get up a turn and see Ryan standing there in a white tank top and jeans.
"Ryan what are you doing here" I say annoyed.
"I go to school here now, I assume you are also apart of the program" he says taking a step closer.
"Yes I do, look I'm really not in the mood to talk to you I'm trying to enjoy myself" I say as I start to turn and walk away he grabs my wrist pulling me back.
"Bella, come on there's no bad blood between us plus I didn't even do anything to you. You blew everything way out of proportion." Ryan says looking straight into my soul the way he's always been able to do. I try to pull away but he won't let go, he's not hurting me he just won't let me go.
"Ryan let me go now"
"Bella-"
"Don't call me that. You have no right. Not anymore."
"Anabella come on can we just talk"
"No. Now Let. Me. Go" I say trying to muster all my strength, his grip has started to tighten on my wrist hurting just a little bit.
"HEY, She said let her go" I her a commanding voice behind me, Ryan let's go and backs up.
"Look we were just talking nothings wrong here" he said with his hands up in defense.
"I think your conversation is over you should probably head inside now" the voice says, I'm too embarrassed to look to see who it is, I just keep my eyes trained on the ground.
I hear Ryan walk back inside, and I feel a light hand touch my shoulder
"Are you alright?" They ask in a tender voice. I look up to see who it is and my eyes meet the blue icy ones I've been avoiding all night.
"Yeah, I'm good sorry you had to walk in on that. I'll give you your space out here and head back inside" I say stepping away from Paige.
"No, no it's okay you can sit out here with me" she says a soft smile on her lips and she takes a seat on the bench. I take one next to her being sure to leave space between us.
"Hi my name is Paige by the way we never formally met" she says extending her hand, I grab it and shake it while saying "Anabella, people call me Ana. It's nice to meet you" I let go of her hand and we sit there for a minute in silence.
"Are you excited to be starting school here? What made you transfer here?" Paige asks as she angles her body towards me so she could see me better.
"Yeah I am actually, the campus is beautiful and I've always wanted to come out to the east coast my best friend lives in New York so that's a huge plus" I say with a little laugh while I twirl my hair in my fingers, something I do when I get nervous.

POV Paige
"As for the reason for my transfer, to be honest there was a lot. I went to school in my home state Wisconsin, and I felt like I was never able to fully grow up. And there was a lot I just wanted to leave behind, things people expected from me, things that happened in high school even things that happened in college, and I guess something's came with me here" Ana says clearly speaking about what I had walked in on between her and that Ryan guy. My blood was still boiling over it. I came out here to check on Anabella because I noticed her walking out and after a while I got worried thinking she was locked out or something. But when I came out here and saw her struggling to get away from Ryan I almost stormed right over and punched him in the face.
"I am really sorry that you had to step in like that, it's kind of an embarrassing way to meet someone for the first time" she says as she looks away. Without thinking I place my hand in her knee "it's not your fault, don't worry about it" she lifts her eyes to mine and I see her cheeks turn pink. I take my hand away still feeling the warmth from her body.
"Let get back inside I think they are starting karaoke soon and I know I definitely want to her you sing" I say in a playful tone. She gives me a soft smile and we head back inside.
