-3rd person POV-

"Still can't believe it took you guys this long," Caveira shook her head, aiming down her SMG sights. Gently squeezing the trigger, she unloaded a few rounds into the range, hitting all of her shots. Nokk waited until she was done to respond to her comment.

"Sometimes it's worth waiting," she shrugged, fiddling with a magazine. "You should know,"

"That's supposed to mean what?"

"You wait before you pounce on an enemy. Y/N and I going on a date is no different, other than we're not enemies," Nokk shrugged.

"I would hope not," the Brazilian responded, flatly. "At any rate, I'm not the only one who saw this coming from miles away. Lera, Alex, Kevin, even Hailey, and she just got here,"

"Okay okay," Nokk sighed. "Yeah we took our time because we wanted to really see how we felt. We wanted to know if it was meant to be or if it was a passing feeling," she finished, slipping a mag into her SMG. She took a few shots down range before continuing. "We wanted to see if we really were compatible,"

"Don't tell me you're on about that star sign shit," Caveira dissed, raising an eyebrow. Nokk only dryly laughed.

"Thankfully not. I just mean that we'd work as an item, ya know?" Caveira nodded, wrapping up her shooting, setting her weapon to safe, and slinging it. Nokk did the same, and they walked over to the armory cages, where they went their separate ways to their personal cages. Nokk's was fairly minimal, fitting her vibe. The only hint of something personal was a Danish flag that hung above her weapons. She rested her weapons in their lock boxes on the rack, before placing her gear on their respective hooks. Once she was in just her normal clothing, she stepped out, locking the cage behind her, and walked down to meet up with Caveira, as the two were heading to the cafeteria. She met the Brazilian outside of her cage and they walked off, eager for some food.

-with Y/N, Kevin, and Hailey-

"Feeling any better?" Y/N asked Hailey as Kevin helped her sit up in the medical bed. Hailey only shrugged, groaning at the action of sitting up. She looked around a bit, as if searching for something.

"Still feels wrong," she spoke, lowly. "That Sabine and Zayus aren't here,"

"I know," Kevin reassured, Y/N nodding in agreement. The three were silent for a moment, remembering their other squadmates. It brought a sad tone to the room, as loss usually does, until Hailey gave a brief smirk and smiled a bit, taking a deep breath.

"We gotta live for them," she spoke with a newfound energy. Y/N and Kevin looked at her, surprised at the sudden enthusiasm. "Make sure these terrorists go down and hard,"

"And we will," Kevin assured. "But not yet. Right now, you need to rest, okay?"

"I've been resting," Hailey shrugged.

"Until you're mostly recovered, Hail. Once Gustave discharges you, you can stay with me and Collinn. He's already approved and is making the room fit for three,"

"That's, if you want to join Rainbow, join us," Y/N chipped in. "But one thing at a time,"

"So long as I can have a chopper to myself, I'm in," Hailey giggled a bit, looking between the two. Kevin chuckled, Y/N rubbed the back of his neck.

"We can sort something out. Rainbow has two official pilots at the moment, and two choppers, but I'm sure we can talk to Harry about acquiring another," Y/N chuckled, looking at Kevin, who just shrugged.

"Maybe a Chinook this time," he inputted. Hailey smirked loudly.

"You really overestimate my abilities," she spoke in a flat tone. Y/N and Kevin laughed a bit, Kevin handing her a water from the table. Wincing a bit, Hailey took the water and sipped, as Y/N turned to the door.

"I'm meeting Nokk and Tai for lunch, glad you're feeling better Hail. Catch you two later!" he waved, the two waving back. Y/N gently closed the door, and exited the medical bay, waving to Finka on his way out, who was treating a banged-up Mute. 'That guy just loves this place' he thought to himself as he walked down the hall to the mess hall.

"L/N!" On hearing his last name spoken, Y/N quickly spun around, and stood at formation, saluting whoever it was calling him.

"At ease Y/N," Ash smirked, jogging up to him, carrying a small tablet. "Just thought you'd want an update," She handed the tablet to him as they began to walk. Y/N inspected the device on screen, and looked at the blown-up image in the blueprints.

"Test 5?" he asked, observing a power cell within the blueprints.

"Still some kinks to work out," she admitted, nibbling at the end of her sunglasses, and peering at the screen. "I had to send Elena on mandatory rest though, she was about to drop,"

"Is she okay?" Y/N asked quickly as they rounded the corner. He really did not need two of his friends in the med bay at the moment. Ash nodded, clicking her tongue.

"Just needs rest, exhaustion does that," she stated. Y/N chuckled a bit as the two entered the cafeteria.

"When is the next test?" Y/N asked as Nokk and Caveira waved him down. He nodded to them, acknowledging their presence, before turning back to Ash.

"Tomorrow I believe? I think Monika is conducting it. Elena has a rest day,"

"Good, she needs rest," Y/N approved, Ash nodding in agreement.

"Well, go eat, I got some paperwork to do for our new recruit. Apparently, Hailey has shown interest in joining, and I just want to get it started so there won't be as much to do," she explained, Y/N chuckling and nodding.

"Fair, fair. See ya!" he waved, turning to Nokk and Caveira. He sat down with them at the table as Ash made her way out of the cafeteria.

"What was that about?" Caveira asked, jerking her thumb back to where Ash had exited. "You didn't piss off Eliza right?"

"Nah. Just an update on my gadget,"

"How's it coming?" Nokk asked, tilting her head.

"She said there'll be another test tomorrow. She had to send Elena on a rest though, apparently she was overworking herself,"

"No shortage of overworking on this base," Caveira smirked, taking a bite out of her apple.

"What exactly does the device do?" Nokk asked.

"It's a holo-screen," Y/N explained. "When it's placed, it snaps an image of the area in front of it. It then projects that image out in the direction it's facing, eliminating any teammates from that image, so it'll appear as an empty area."

"In English?" Caveira asked.

"Oh come on, that was a simple explanation!" Y/N exclaimed, throwing a hand up.

"It projects a false image of an empty area," Nokk explained. "Basically a better version of those observation blockers that Emma designed,"

"Uh huh, and why are those not standard?" Caveira asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Cost. Complexity. Still not sure if it'll truly work-" Nokk started.

"Some game designers making it too broken before nerfing it into the ground," Y/N spoke quickly, under his breath.

"What?" Nokk asked.

"What?" Y/N asked back, looking at the Dane, who appeared to look back at him.

"Anyway," Caveira trailed, looking between the two. "Don't you guys have a date to get to?"

"Not for a few hours," Nokk shrugged. "Plenty of time for the range,"

"Second that," Y/N nodded in agreement. Cav chuckled a bit, finishing her food.

"Have at it. I'm off to the gym," she mentioned, throwing her stuff away and waving to them as she exited. When she was gone, Y/N looked over to Nokk.

"Still want to get in range time huh?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. Nokk shrugged.

"Wanna get in as much training as possible. Now then, come with?"

"Like you even have to ask"
