Cheese Sandwiches (I need to stop)

So much food.

As soon as I walked into the Green Bay Café, my nose immediately smelt the whiff of fresh pastries and coffee.

No wonder Sonya liked this place so much. Everyone was minding their own business as a soft sound of chatter filled the air. It was... calm.

I now realised that ever since I had came to Coppinham that there had not been any calm in my life. It was nice to have some peace.

Until Harriet came in through the door.

"FRY WHERE'S MY EGGS."

Teresa grabbed a hold of Harriet's arm, covering her mouth with a hand, and flashed a smile to the people who had turned around to see the commotion.

Once we were sat down in a semi-circle booth, Teresa finally removed her hand from Harriet's face. "What was that for?"

Teresa just rolled her eyes and opened a menu, covering her face. Brenda still looked at me as if she couldn't believe I was real.

News flash. I'm real.

Taking a menu, the logo of a green coffee cup with the words 'Green Bay Café' was printed on the front. I opened it up, revealing a lot of options. Sonya watched me, a small smile on her face. "I love it here. D'you know what you're getting?"

My eyes quickly scanned the menu, before I decided. "Probably just a cheese sandwich."

Everyone on the table stopped what they were doing and just stared at me.

"What did I do?"

Harriet snatched my menu and pointed to all the options. "Out of all of this, you want a cheese sandwich?"

I nodded slowly. All this food sounded too... exotic. Like what the fuck is a Griever Green Smoothie?

Harriet just shook her head before placing the menu back in front of me. "I'm not having that. You should order... the Runners Omelette. That's my favourite."

Teresa pointed to the menu as well. "Or the Glade Salad."

Brenda pitched in "If we're all just going to recommend stuff, I'd say you might like the Wicked Waffles." Sonya gave her a look. "What? It's never too late to have waffles."

"She probably wants something less sweet like the Scorch Stew."

They all looked at me expectantly as I swallowed a lump in my throat.

"I'd rather have a cheese sandwich."

They all sighed and went back to their conversation. Soon after, a dark skinned boy with a kind-of stocky build came up to our table. His brown-almost-black hair was messed up at the top and his apron had all sorts of mess on it. "Hey guys, what can I get you."

Sonya turned her head towards him and flashed him an awkward smile. "Can I get the Glade Pie?" She looked down and twiddled her thumbs.

So that's Fry.

Noting down everyone's orders on a small notepad, Sonya didn't take her eyes off him. She really was smitten.

Finally he turned to me. "And you Greenie?"

Confused, I gave him a look. "Greenie?" I had been called many things in my life, mostly by my dad, but I'd never been called a... Greenie.

Teresa chuckled before quickly explaining. "Fry calls everyone new to the café a greenie. So until someone new comes to town, I guess you're stuck with it."

Sighing, I gave him my order. "A cheese sandwich please."

Fry raised his eyebrow at me. "Just a cheese sandwich?" He stopped writing on his notepad to give me a pointed look.

"That's what we were saying!" Sonya exclaimed. "Out of everything on the menu, she chooses a cheese sandwich."

I just like my cheese sandwiches, okay?

Fry noted down my order before walking off to the kitchen. "So do you guys come here often?"

"All the time. It's the closest place that does food in town that isn't just pure mush." Brenda answered.

While we waited for our food, we just chatted about everything. Once I got bored of the conversation, I grabbed my knife and started carving lines into the napkin. Soon, the lines turned into shapes, and the shapes turned into a random eye. How I managed to do that on a napkin? I have no clue.

A few minutes later, a boy with ginger hair and freckles came over with our food on a tray. "-a scorch stew and a... cheese sandwich?"

I put my head in my hand "Don't ask."

He shrugged and walked away with the tray, and immediately everyone dug in.

An hour later, our group of 5 had dwindled down to just Sonya and I. Currently, I was teasing Sonya of her little crush on Fry which she was refusing to admit as we were walking out of the café. Distracted by the conversation, I bumped into a group of people who were walking in.

Fortunately, Sonya caught me before I could fall. Unfortunately, I was a bit too heavy so I fell to the ground with less of a thud.

I looked up and was met with 3 pairs of eyes staring back down at me.

And one pair was oddly similar to Sonya's. Plus the hair, and the nose and... oh.

One of the guys who seemed to have some Asian in him, stuck his hand out for me to take, which I gladly took.

Once I was stood back up, I dusted myself off from any dirt I had collected on the ground. Sonya turned me around to face her and gave me a quick dust with her own hands just to check nothing was left.

After, Sonya looked at the three guys, one being her brother, extremely angry. "Can't you watch where you're going?"

Newt scoffed "Maybe tell your new friend to stop getting in my way then."

What I would have give then to punch that little smirk off his face. Instead, I just stood there and took it in while Sonya and Newt continued to argue.

The other boy, one who had a few moles on his face, intervened. "Look, we just want to get something to eat."

Sonya pinched the bridge of her nose "And you will Thomas, but Newt needs to apologise to Ana first."

Newt shook his head and crossed his arms like a little kid. "Why should I apologise to her if she bumped into me?"

I turned to Sonya and whispered "It's not a big deal, can we just go?"

She shook her head. "I'm not having you be pushed around by anyone, especially not by my brother." She turned back to Newt. "Ever since you got out of the hospital you've been a real bitch to people. I know what happened to you wasn't the nicest, but you could try not to be so rude to people."

Before Newt could say anything else, Sonya grabbed me and walked away, but first acknowledging the two boys stood either side of her brother. "You should talk to him, that brain of his won't listen to me but probably will to you. Make him less rude. And no jokes Minho."

With that I was dragged away for the 3rd time in 3 days by Sonya. Yet, I didn't mind. If I had learnt anything about Sonya, she could really speak her mind when she wanted to.

Oh, and she's also offended by cheese sandwiches.
