Jordyn had the craziest dream that she was being eaten alive by homicidal grandmas.
They had long, bright red acrylics that sliced and diced her flesh like a Michelin chef. Once she was minced up to their liking, they served her up on a pure white plate and watched her with greedy eyes as she tried and failed to squirm to freedom.
Jordyn woke with a start and frowned at the beads of sweat that trickled down her temple. Her eyes quickly took in her surroundings as she dried her forehead. Silver shafts of light filtered in from wide windows that shuddered slightly against the wild wind that whipped up swirls of snow. She was sitting on a thick, soft mattress with two plush blankets laid on top of her and a bright fire crackled excitedly in a huge fireplace behind her. Two dusty brown couches were lined up on either side of her, which only disoriented Jordyn even more. ' Was someone watching me? ' Despite being awake, Jordyn's head felt like it had been thrown in a violent washing machine, or the spinning thing that doctors put blood in. ' Must've sat up too quickly, but where am I? ' She was very sure this wasn't her room, or any room in her house for that matter.
A click from right made her whip her head around, which made her headache even worse and she winced as the foreign pain.
"She's awake! You're awake! I told you guys, today is the day. I know I said that yesterday, and the day before that, but today felt right." A bright boy cheered as he kicked open the door. His light blonde hair formed tight curls that seemed to spring from his hair in every direction, and his clear blue eyes crinkled in the corners as a huge smile crossed his face. He was wearing a sky blue puffer jacket which was damp from the snow. "You're awake!" He squealed.
"I'm sure that she's aware of the fact that she's awake, Charlie." Another girl with the blonde hair in loose curls walked in after him. Her jacket was a respectable shade of grey. Jordyn would've thought they were identical twins if it weren't for the girl's eyes, which were a dark stormy grey like the sky outside. Charlie rolled his eyes and unzipped his jacket to pull out a silver flask. ' Is that alcohol? ' Jordyn had heard from her mother that they used to give people alcohol to warm them up during the winter, but Jordyn dismissed the thought quickly. The mystery girl looked far to stern and responsible to feed a fellow child alcohol.
Jordyn's suspicion arose when the boy unscrewed the lid of the flask and ran his hands across a dark shelf and pulled out a single, tall, dusty glass all while whistling. His high tune stopped as he pursed his lips for a moment before blowing away the light grime and poured out a transparent, golden liquid. ' It's either apple juice or whiskey. ' Jordyn thought as Charlie added a little purple umbrella on the edge.
"Bon appetite." He said, making a flourished bow as he handed Jordyn the glass.
"Charlie, its bon appetit, not bon appetite." The stern girl corrected.
"Same thing, dude." He shrugged and watched as Jordyn's black eyes flick between him, the glass and the girl.
"Who are you?" She asked defensively with a frown.
"I'm Charlie Frenner, and that's Annabeth Chase." Charlie introduced, jabbing a thumb at the blond, who had crossed her arms with a frown. "It's all going to sound crazy, but you have to drink this." He said slowly and swirled the drink in his hand. "It makes you feel better."
"I'm not going to drink something a rando is trying to give me." Jordyn retorted, pushing the hand holding the glass away and attempting to stand. As soon as she found her feet, her legs began to shake violently before completely collapsing beneath her. In a flash, Charlie had wrapped his arm around her in a very awkward save.
"Careful, you're still weak." Charlie warned and gingerly set Jordyn back down. "Are you dizzy? Any odd pains?"
"My head aches." Jordyn admitted hoarsely.
