I thought I was dreaming. That was the only explanation. It had to be.

Ezra sat there, his head bowed, the shame written all over his face. "I lost," he muttered, his voice thick with regret.

My heart lurched. "What do you mean, you lost?" My voice came out small, trembling as the pit in my stomach widened into something unbearable.

He finally looked up, and his expression sent a cold wave of realization through me. He wasn't lying. This wasn't some cruel joke or misunderstanding. My own brother had sold me out.

"I didn't have the money," Ezra said, his voice tight with panic. "I thought—I thought I could win. I didn't mean for it to—"

My entire body went cold, then hot, like fire racing under my skin. "You gambled me?" I took a step forward, my fists clenched at my sides. I felt my face flush with anger, a wave of fury so intense I could hardly breathe. "Are you out of your mind, Ezra? You sold me like I'm... like I'm nothing?!"

"I'm sorry, Ria. I didn't know what else to do." His voice cracked, but the apology only fueled my rage.

"You're sorry?" I spat, my hands shaking as I struggled to hold myself together. "You don't get to be sorry, Ezra! Not for this."

A low chuckle came from behind me, and I turned to see Damon still standing there, his dark eyes fixed on me, cold and predatory. "Your brother made a deal," he said smoothly. "And you, Aurelia, are the payment."

I glared at him, barely able to keep my voice steady. "You can't just take me. I'm not some thing you can trade."

Damon stepped closer, his presence suffocating, and his lips curled into a smirk. "I'm afraid it's not up to you."

I felt the world tilting, my heart pounding in my chest. "There has to be another way," I whispered, desperation creeping into my voice. "I'll pay the debt. I'll do whatever it takes."

Damon's smirk faded, his eyes narrowing. "This isn't about money. This is about power. And now, I have power over you."

I turned to Ezra, my throat tight with the weight of my words. "You hear that? This is what you've done. You've ruined everything."

Ezra's face crumpled, but I couldn't look at him. My anger was burning too hot. I wanted to scream, to hit something, anything. But I couldn't do anything. Not now. Not when Damon was looming over me, ready to claim his prize.

Damon's voice cut through the haze of my fury. "You'll come with me now, or your brother will pay the price."

I closed my eyes, my breath shaking. I didn't have a choice. Ezra might have been reckless and selfish, but I couldn't let him get hurt. Even if I hated him for what he'd done, I couldn't let him suffer.

"Fine," I whispered. "I'll go."

Damon gave a satisfied nod, then turned and began walking toward the door. I hesitated for only a moment, casting one last glance at Ezra. He didn't say a word. He didn't need to.

With one last deep breath, I followed Damon into the night, knowing my life would never be the same again.
