The night air hit me like a wall as soon as we stepped outside, cold and sharp against my skin. I pulled my jacket tighter around myself, though it did nothing to stop the trembling. My mind raced, desperate to grasp what had just happened. Desperate to believe it wasn't real.

But as I followed Damon's towering figure, the truth settled into my bones. This was real. I was leaving, being taken from my home, my life, and everything I knew—because of Ezra.

Damon's black car gleamed under the streetlights, the sleek vehicle a sharp contrast to the crumbling building behind us. He opened the passenger door, the gesture smooth and silent, like a predator luring its prey.

I hesitated, the urge to run clawing at the back of my mind. But where would I go? Damon hadn't said much, but the way he carried himself, the way his eyes watched me, told me everything I needed to know. There was no escape.

Swallowing hard, I climbed into the car, my heart pounding. The door shut with a soft click, sealing me inside. Seconds later, Damon slid into the driver's seat, his presence filling the small space like a storm cloud. He didn't say a word as he started the engine, the car humming to life as we pulled away from the curb.

I stared out the window, my hands clenched tightly in my lap. The city blurred past, the lights and sounds fading as we drove farther from the familiar. My chest tightened with each passing minute, the reality of my situation pressing down on me like a weight I couldn't shake.

It was quiet in the car, too quiet. The silence stretched, thick and suffocating. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore.

"Where are you taking me?" My voice came out quieter than I intended, trembling with the fear I couldn't hide.

Damon glanced at me from the corner of his eye, his expression unreadable. "To my estate," he said simply, as if that explained everything.

I bit my lip, the knot in my stomach twisting tighter. "And then what?"

A faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth, though it didn't reach his eyes. "Then, you'll live by my rules."

I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms. "I didn't agree to this. I'm not some pawn in your game."

His smile faded, and his gaze darkened. "Your brother made that decision for you. Now, you'll do as you're told."

My throat tightened, the anger bubbling up again. "You can't just take me like this. I'm not... I'm not a possession."

For a moment, I thought I saw something flicker in his eyes—something close to regret—but it was gone before I could be sure. His voice was cold when he finally spoke again. "You'd do well to remember that this is no longer your decision."

The rest of the drive passed in tense silence, the weight of his words hanging heavy in the air. I stared out the window, my mind whirling with thoughts of escape, of fighting back. But deep down, I knew I had no choice.

Not yet, anyway.

Eventually, the city gave way to darkness as we left the familiar streets behind. We were far from home now, the shadows of towering trees lining the road. My chest tightened with each passing mile, the reality of what I was walking into becoming harder to ignore.

When the car finally slowed, we turned onto a long, winding driveway. The massive estate loomed ahead, its stone walls dark and foreboding against the night sky. My heart sank as we approached the front entrance, the weight of what was to come pressing down on me like a vice.

Damon cut the engine, turning to face me, his gaze steady and cold. "This is your new home now, Aurelia," he said, his voice soft but firm. "You'll learn to live with it."

I swallowed hard, staring up at the mansion in front of me. Home? No. This wasn't a home. It was a prison.

And I had just walked into my cage.
