alara webber, daughter of the chief, was the product of another of her father's affairs. a year before he started his affair with ellis grey, richard webber had a one night stand with a musician in a bar. natasha banks.

natasha was alara's mum. not that she saw much of her, she already had a son she didn't need another child, so she gave alara to richard.

alara was raised by richard and adele, who was extremely welcoming to a kid that was a product of her husband's extra curricular activities, and would occasionally see her mum, although she would see her on the tv or over the radio more often.

when alara finally followed richard's footsteps and joined the intern program at her father's hospital, she had to work harder than any of her co-workers to get people to respect her and not just respect the fact that she was the daughter of the chief.

throughout her intern years she went through a lot of ups and downs, being younger than the other interns in her group she joked around a lot which made her bond closely with alex karev.

the two got into a relationship and were together for a year, close to getting engaged before he cheated on her with izzie, something which she was annoyed about at first but quickly got over as she realised he wasn't her person.

after that she tried to keep her head down. yes she was involved in other relationships but nothing as strong or deep as that one and she wasn't really looking for one either. she could admit that she wanted a family when she was older but for now she was focused on her career.

how long would that last when the merge of seattle grace and mercy west lead her to the love of her life and the brother she'd never spoken to?
