Malia was nervous. Kylie was coming over today, they agreed that she'd draw her. Or sketch her, rather. She's drawn people before, she did it back in high school, she's done it for assignments in class. But something about Kylie, she couldn't put her finger on it. Their initial meet, the way she made her smile and blush. The way she was making an effort to try and communicate with her, through her language. It warmed her heart.
A flashing light takes her out of her thoughts. Kylie's here. When she moved in to her dorm, her mom helped her install and wire the flashing lights to the doorbell. Yes, they also installed a doorbell. Malia wanted to be independent, which she was, she just needed a few adjustments here and there. She opens the door and waves. Kylie smiles and waves back. Ready? Malia nods and opens the door wider for her. Kylie walks in and looks around. It was the same as her dorm room. Two bedrooms, one living area, kitchen area, one bathroom. The only difference was all the lights and wires that were running along the walls.
Malia nudges her and nods for her to follow her. They go to Malia's room and she shuts the door. Kylie looks around her room. Art pictures, drawings, paintings, photography, along with some family photos. She frowns slightly at one picture of Malia and her sister in their bathing suits. She points to it as she turns towards Malia. Was this....? Malia nods. Why do you keep it? Malia shrugs. It was the last time my family was truly happy. It was also the moment that made me who i am today. Malia smiles sadly. Kylie walks up to her and hugs her tight, gently patting her hair before she pulls away slightly. I'm so sorry, Malia. Once again, she just shrugs. Like she was used to it, like that's just life. It is what it is. And Kylie wasn't having it. No, it's not right. It's not fair. Malia sighs. But that's how it is. As much as i hate it, that's just the way things are for me. Has been for years. So, yes. I'm used to it. No, it's not fair, no it's not right. But there's nothing we can do now. I'm deaf, I'm always gonna be deaf. That's never gonna change.
Kylie holds her hands up. Slow down a bit. You go a little fast when you get excited or passionate about something. Malia couldn't help but giggle. She signs again, slower this time, giving her time to understand everything. Kylie sighs. It's still not right. Why does someone as sweet and beautiful and kind and caring as you have to live your life this way? An innocent child, you did nothing wrong. And this is the rest of your life. It makes me fucking sick. Malia starts tearing up. She pulls her in and hugs her tight. She cries into her shoulder. Kylie pulls away slightly. I didn't mean to upset you, I'm sorry. Kylie wipes away a tear. Malia shakes her head. You didn't. You did just the opposite, actually. No one's ever cared that much. Not even my own family. Kylie looks at her. Well i do. I told you i was practicing my signing. I'm gonna make sure you never have to struggle with anything anymore. I'll be here for you, every step of the way. Malia shakes her head. I don't need- Kylie puts her hands down. I know you don't need me to. You are a strong, independent woman who doesn't need anyone to help her. But i want to. You've been doing this your whole life, by yourself. Let me do it with you. Malia starts crying as she nods. She pulls her in for a hug and holds her for a few seconds. Thank you. Um, i should probably start drawing now. Kylie laughs. You're right. How did you want me?
Malia holds up one finger, initially telling her to wait one second. She adjusts the pillows and straightens the blanket. She gestures for her to lay down. Kylie smiles and lays down, resting against the pillows. She tries to pose as best as she can. Malia eventually walks over and adjusts her arms, fixes her face and her hair. Kylie lets her after she finishes, she doesn't dare move. The spend the next hour in comfortable silence. Kylie glances at Malia every once in a while. The way her hand moves with each stroke. The way she bites her lip when she's thinking or something. The way her eyebrows furrow when she doesn't like something and changes it. It was like she was mesmerized. Like she wasn't the model, she wasn't the art, Malia was. She is. Suddenly, Malia looks at her and gives her a thumbs up. Kylie stands and walks over to see. She gasps at the sight. "Oh my god...." She whispered.
You like it? Malia asks her. Kylie stares at the portrait, completely speechless. She turns to Malia. I love it. You're so talented. Malia smiles and blushes. Thank you. She glances from the portrait to Malia. They lock eyes for a second. Malia glances at her lips before she looks back up. Kylie definitely knew what that meant but she still needed to be sure. Can i kiss you? Malia smiles and nods. Kylie walks up and holds her face in her hands. She brings her closer and kisses her softly. Malia responds instantly. She smiles as she kisses her back. Their lips moving as one together. They pull away once air was necessary. "God, i think i love you." She confesses, knowing Malia can't read her lips right now. But she does feel her breath on her lips so she pulls away and looks at her. Did you say something? Malia smiles. Kylie nods. I asked would you be my girlfriend? Malia smiles widely and nods. Yes, I'd love to be your girlfriend. Kylie smiles and pulls her in for another kiss.
