Love is Deaf

Chapter 8

"Ruby, are you ok?" Kylie touches her arm. "Um, yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. I mean, it's not like we were together anyways." She shakes her head. "Um, I'm gonna go get a drink." She walks to the kitchen. "Wait, Ru-" Kylie feels a tug on her arm. Is she ok? Malia asks. Kylie shakes her head. No, i guess the girl she was talking to showed up with someone else. Malia's eyes widen. What? Kylie shrugs. She takes her hand and follows Ruby. She finds Ruby in the kitchen, drinking from a red solo cup. "You might wanna slow down." Kylie signs as she speaks so Malia knows what she's telling her.

"I don't care." Ruby mumbles. "Ruby, please." Kylie sighs. She looks at her and sighs. "I feel like such an idiot." "How were you supposed to know she had a girlfriend?" "Asking her would have been a good start." Ruby rolls her eyes. Kylie feels a tap on her shoulder. She turns around and looks at Malia. She had a girlfriend?! Kylie nods. Apparently so. Malia looks over at the two chatting in the corner. What's her name? Kylie turns back to Ruby. "What was her name?" Ruby sniffles. "Her name is Morgan. Why?" Kylie turns to Malia. Morgan, why does it matter? Malia shakes her head. Which one is she? Kylie sees a fire in her eyes and she's not sure if she likes it or not. She turns back to Ruby. "Which one is she?" "The one in black." Kylie looks over. Black shirt. Malia storms off without answering. "Malia! Oh i don't know why i bother she can't hear me!" Kylie chases after her. "Kylie!" Ruby follows.

Malia walks up to the two of them and stops just before them. "Hi? Can i help you?" Morgan asks. Her girlfriend spots her hearing aids. Before she can sign anything, Malia slaps Morgan across the face. "What the fuck was that?! Who the hell even are you?!" Kylie and Ruby run over. Then for the first time, Malia screams in her face. Literally screams. Kylie was dumbfounded. She's never heard a sound come out of Malia. Not even a squeak. And here she was screaming in Morgan's face. If you've never heard a deaf person scream, it was terrifying. She quickly wraps her arms around her. "Malia, Malia!" She shouts, completely forgetting that she can't hear her. "Whoa! Whoa! What's going on?!" The other girl signs. Kylie and Malia were taken aback for a split second. Oh, she speaks sign language. "What's going on is, your girlfriend is a two timing hoe!" Kylie glares at Morgan. "Excuse me?" The girl looks at her soon-to-be ex-girlfriend no doubt. "No, baby," Morgan pulls her aside. "Are you two-timing me?!" She shouts. "No baby, I'm two-timing her." Her girlfriend stares at her, ready to kill. "I-i mean, I'm not two-timing anybody baby." Morgan pouts. "I know that's right cause it takes two to two-time and from now on, you're on your own!" (A/N who knows where this is from?) "Baby wait-" Her ex-girlfriend turns around and tosses her drink in her face. "Get out, Morgan, just go away." Morgan sighs and leaves. The three of them stand there, watching the whole scene unfold, Kylie signing for Malia to understand what's being said. Suddenly the girl turns towards them. Ruby's heart drops. She walks over to them.

She locks eyes with the girl as she comes closer. She turns to Kylie and Malia. "I'm sorry about her. I honestly had no idea." Ruby sniffles and nods. They lock eyes once again. "You wanna get out of here? Something tells me we have a lot to talk about." She asks. Ruby looks at Kylie and Malia. "We'll be fine, you can go if you want?" Ruby turns back to her and nods. They leave the party and walk down the street. "You didn't know either huh?" Ruby asks. She shakes her head. "Nope. If i did, i would have stopped it right away. I'm sorry for bringing you any pain." Ruby sighs. "It's not your fault....fucking Morgan...." "Well, at least now we don't have to worry about her anymore." The girl smiles. Ruby nods. "That's true. So, you know sign language?" She nods. "Yeah, i take it your friend is deaf?" "She's my best friend's girlfriend. But yeah, she's deaf." They find themselves at a neighborhood park and both sit down on the swings. They both swing in silence for a bit. "I'm Mel by the way." Ruby smiles. "Ruby."
