The sun streamed through the large windows of the hospital cafeteria, casting a warm glow on the tables scattered around the room. Dev sat at one of the corner tables, tapping away on his laptop, but his focus was far from the screen in front of him. Instead, he kept stealing glances at Akshara, who was sitting across the room with Abhimanyu, their chemistry palpable even from a distance.
"Are you going to stare at them all day, or are you going to join us?" Sonakshi teased, sliding into the seat across from him, her tray filled with a vibrant array of colorful salads and a generous slice of chocolate cake.
Dev chuckled, shaking his head. "I'm not staring! Just... observing." He tried to play it cool, but Sonakshi raised an eyebrow at him, clearly unconvinced.
"Observing? Or obsessing?" she quipped, biting into her salad. "It's obvious you're interested in their dynamic. I mean, have you seen how they look at each other?"
Dev shrugged, a smirk playing on his lips. "What's there to look at? They're just colleagues working together. It's nothing."
"Nothing ?" Sonakshi laughed, leaning forward. "Please, their chemistry is electrifying ! Did you see how they lit up during that case presentation yesterday? It was like they were the only two people in the room."
Dev rolled his eyes, trying to suppress a grin. "Okay, fine. There might be something there, but it's complicated. She's still healing from her past."
"True, but isn't that the best part?" Sonakshi leaned back, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "The fact that doctor Abhimanyu can help her heal? I mean, you have to admit that they make a pretty amazing team. The chemistry is palpable."
Dev glanced back at Akshara and Abhimanyu. They were deep in conversation, their voices low, but their smiles were unmistakably bright. "Yeah, I guess. "
Sonakshi waved her hand dismissively. "I'm so ready for Akshara and Abhimanyu to explore whatever this is between them."
"Explore?" Dev echoed, a teasing tone in his voice. "Sounds like you're planning a matchmaking scheme."
"Maybe I am," Sonakshi replied, leaning in conspiratorially. "I can't help it! Akshara deserves to be happy. She's been through so much, and I just want her to find love."
"Love? You're getting ahead of yourself," Dev said, shaking his head. "They just started working together. It's too soon to assume they're falling in love."
"Maybe. But you can't deny the connection is there. They just click," Sonakshi said, gesturing dramatically with her hands. "And look at you ! I see the way you watch her. Are you going to admit you're falling for her too ?"
Dev opened his mouth to retort but found himself at a loss for words. He had always cared for Akshara, but he brushed those feelings aside, convincing himself that friendship was enough. "No, no. It's not like that," he stammered. "I'm just a supportive friend, that's all."
"Uh-huh," Sonakshi replied skeptically, eyeing him with a knowing smile. "Just a supportive friend who can't stop checking her out. You know, if you were interested, you should tell her."
"Maybe I will," Dev said, trying to sound nonchalant, but his heart raced at the thought. "But for now, I think she needs to focus on her work with Abhimanyu."
Sonakshi shook her head, amused. "I think you're just scared of stepping out of your comfort zone. What's the worst that could happen? You two have chemistry too."
"Right," Dev scoffed, leaning back in his chair. "Like I could ever compete with Doctor Abhimanyu Birla."
"Oh, please! You're being too hard on yourself," Sonakshi said, rolling her eyes. "Abhimanyu may have the charm, but you have a heart. And Akshara deserves someone who sees her for who she truly is."
Dev glanced over at Akshara again. She was laughing at something Abhimanyu said, her eyes sparkling with joy. It was a beautiful sight. "I want her to be happy," he said softly, more to himself than to Sonakshi.
"Then help her be happy! You should be supportive of whatever she chooses. If she wants to explore this connection with Abhimanyu, then you should be her friend first. That way, you'll have a chance to see where things go," Sonakshi urged.
Dev sighed, feeling the weight of his friend's words. "You're right. I want her to find happiness, even if it's not with me. But it's hard to watch her move on when I still care."
Sonakshi reached across the table, giving his hand a reassuring squeeze. "It's okay to feel that way. But don't let fear hold you back. If Abhimanyu and Akshara are meant to be, they'll find their way. But that doesn't mean you have to be a bystander. You can still be in her life."
After his conversation with Sona, Dev felt a flicker of resolve ignite within him. Maybe he could support Akshara without holding on to the past. Maybe there was room for all of them in this complicated web of emotions.
"Alright," Dev said, determination shining in his eyes. "I'll be her friend and support her through whatever comes next. But if it means seeing her with Abhimanyu, I'm going to have to brace myself."
"Smart move!" Sonakshi beamed. "Now, let's finish our food and see if we can catch them on their way out. I want to see if the sparks are flying outside the cafeteria too!"
Dev laughed, shaking his head at her enthusiasm, but a part of him was grateful for her perspective. Maybe this was just the beginning of something beautiful, not just for Akshara and Abhimanyu, but for him as well. As they finished their meals, the thrill of possibility hung in the air, reminding him that sometimes, the most unexpected connections could lead to the most profound transformations.
Outside, Akshara and Abhimanyu continued their deep conversation, the connection between them growing stronger with each passing moment. The chemistry that had sparked from their collaboration felt electric, lighting the path for a future neither of them could fully predict yet.
And as Dev and Sonakshi stepped outside the cafeteria, they knew they were witnessing the unfolding of something extraordinary -love, friendship, and perhaps a little magic in the making.
