I apply the ice pack to my forehead.It is so cold that it burns, and I let out a shrill sound.He is still standing in front of me, almost like he is studying me.
It makes me feel insecure, and the small pimple on my cheek no longer feels so small.My hair is suddenly messy, and I have to restrain myself from straightening it or showing any signs of discomfort.
I look down and grab the closest thing I can find on my table to distract myself from his gaze, which happens to be Mina's very non-family friendly romance book. I pick it up before even registering the horribly graphic cover, which just so happens to display a guy's abs on the front cover.
"I didn't know you'd be into stuff like that." He sounds almost amused.
I immediately drop it; I do not need a mirror to see that my cheeks are not completely flushed right now.
"Well even if I was, which I'm not. I don't see why that would be any of your concern anyway" I retaliate in a tone much more defensive and aggressive than I would like to be.
His smirk falters, he returns to his nonchalant manner and turns away. I assume he reminded himself of who we are to each other. Adrian is nothing more than a rival to me, and it's probably the same way around.
Ever since he first came to this school, in year 8 I doubt I have ever been able to rest. Before he came I always placed first in nearly everything, looking at my class rank's only purpose was to be an ego boost, reminding me solely of how was better than everyone else by a landslide. However nowadays I dread the idea, having to even imagine seeing Adrian's name above mine, or him standing above me on a podium.
I remember the day I first met him extremely vividly. I walked towards the schools leaderboard preparing to see my name right at the top. As I grew closer I looked up, bracing myself to be met by the beauty of my own name. However as I looked I froze, the heels of my shoes halting, creating a slight screech on the tiles. "Adrian (Last name idk)".
In utter disbelief I turned, only to be met by a tall unfamiliar figure, Adrian.
