My Partner's a Monster

Chapter 5

Megan walked into her house and invited Angelica inside. Once they got inside, Megan and Angelica saw Joseph asleep on the sofa in his human form. When Joseph woke up, he saw Megan and Angelica looking at him, waiting for him to wake up. Joseph said, "What?" Angelica said, "You went full wolf last night, but we hid and protected you." Megan stated, "And that's not all." Megan turned on their TV, and the news came on. The news lady said, "A vicious wolf got spotted in Transylvania last night. Police are on high alert until they capture this wolf, coyote, or whatever it might be." Chief Meena took the microphone and said, "I already know what it is. It's a werewolf, and I'm going to kill it." Megan then turned off the TV, and Joseph couldn't believe what he had heard. Megan said, "Great. Now, the cops are after us." Angelica said, "They might not be the only ones." Joseph stated, "What do you mean?"

Angelica said, "As you witnessed last night, I'm not the only vampire in Transylvania. The others are my friends, and they're werewolf hunters. There's Matthew, our leader and #1 expert at hunting werewolves. He even drives our vampire car when we take it at night instead of flying. Maddy's like a master of disguise; she changes into anything to spy on werewolves and kill them. And if we need drastic measures, we allow her to disguise her human form so she looks different. Carolyn's like our eye in the sky. She flaps as a bat or glides around like an owl searching for werewolves to hunt. Raven is our nurse vampire. If one of us got into some garlic, she would feed us the antidote, but she hasn't found immunity for wooden stakes. Chris is the tech expert. If Matt's driving in his car, he can make all the streetlights on the road Matt's on turn green when he goes by. And when the cops come, Chris can make them all turn red so they'll stop. He can also turn off laser beams and alarms by hacking into their systems. It's been over 120 years since he's had this job, and he hasn't made a mistake in his work." Joseph said, "What's your job?" Angelica said, "I'm the best fighter in the group. I'm the best in acrobatics and hypnotism; no police officer or monster hunter has ever found me. The sunblock hides my vampire scent, and staying in the sunlight camouflages the fact I'm not allowed in the sun. Singing is just a hobby. Together we form an unstoppable force of vampires that no werewolf can escape and no police officer or monster hunter can ever catch." Megan said, "Until now, I'll just report your friends to the Police, and then they catch them. We'll leave you out, though."

Angelica said, "Not a good idea. Police Chief Meena was on the news, and if my vampire friends saw the news, they'll stop at nothing until they find Joseph and kill him. If we turn them in, this might be the first place they'll look if they get away." Megan said, "True. So, what do we do?" Angelica said, "I'm sorry, but it's too dangerous for you to be around me right now. You better stay away from me, and I'll convince the vampires that Joseph's dead. Then the Police will stop looking for us. Goodbye, Megan." Angelica approached Joseph and said, "Goodbye, Joseph, it's been fun. You're my wolf." Angelica then kissed Joseph's cheek, and his amulet glowed pink, making him sprout his tail, which wagged. Then Angelica left sad, and Joseph felt heartbroken. His necklace then turned blue, and his tail end became all droopy. Joseph looked at his tail end and saw it wasn't wagging anymore or disappearing. His crystal then glowed purple, made his tail vanish, and then it glowed blue again. Joseph then started to cry and ran up to his room.

After Angelica left, she changed into a bat, and Joseph watched her fly away from his window and became heartbroken. Joseph waved goodbye to Angelica and then started to cry on his bed. Megan knocked on Joseph's door and said, "Joseph, open the door. Open the door." Megan then let herself in and saw Joseph crying in his bed. When she did, Megan started to sing to Joseph because she knew he loved to sing. Megan sang about how she understood he was hurting, but all will get better soon. Megan sang directly to Joseph, and when he heard her, Joseph looked at Megan and sat up while he cried. The same music surrounded Angelica while she was a bat, but then it started to rain, and Angelica changed into herself. Angelica then saw nothing in a puddle because vampires don't have reflections. Angelica began to regret what she had done and then walked into Bird Karaoke, feeling miserable. Angelica saw a happy couple singing on stage and remembered how much fun she had singing with Joseph. Then Angelica started to cry into her arms on her table, just like Joseph was sobbing into his arms on his legs while Megan sang to him. Megan then dried one of Joseph's eyes while she sang to him. Then Megan hugged Joseph and sang to him while he cried on her.

The music still surrounded Angelica, so she returned outside in the rain, turned into a wolf, and hid somewhere no one would find her. Angelica started to feel sorry for Joseph. Then Maddy came to Angelica as a fox and saw she looked miserable. The music still surrounded them while they had their conversation. Maddy said, "Based on your look, you succeeded, but it wasn't an easy kill." Angelica changed back to herself and stated, "Yes. I had to do something awful to my boyfriend." Maddy returned to being herself and said, "Love hurts, but you had to do it as a werewolf-hunting vampire." Angelica felt terrible and stated, "Totally." Then she flicked a pedal off a flower and looked away. Megan then made Joseph look outside his window and look at the rain while she finished her song. Megan sang about what Joseph should do if he didn't want to feel bad. Before Megan finished her song, Angelica and Maddy returned to the other vampires at Dracula's castle. Once they got inside, the song ended, and she looked at the rain out the window, wondering if she had made the right decision. Megan then finished her music while she hugged Joseph. Joseph then started to feel better, but he was still missing Angelica.

Later that day, Angelica got in her coffin and went to bed before sundown, while Megan took Joseph for a stroll. Joseph jumped up into a tree, and Megan watched. Joseph then sat on the branch he was on and started to puppy dog whine even though he was human at the time. Megan said, "Come on, Joseph, you can't stay up there forever." Joseph stated, "Perhaps not. But that doesn't mean I still can't miss her." Joseph held onto the branch like he was hugging it and started to cry as much as he did last night. Megan said, "Well, this is getting me nowhere. Come on down, Joseph." Megan took Joseph to the Siret River at sundown, and they spoke. Joseph looked at his reflection in the river and saw his human face. Then, one of his tears dripped into the river, turning his image into his werewolf reflection. Angelica then found them by the river and eavesdropped on their conversation. Megan said, "Joseph, have you ever thought about changing back? You know, giving up your power." Angelica couldn't believe what Megan had asked Joseph, and she waited for his response. Joseph looked at his jewel and said, "Yes, I've thought about it. But I would only do that if I found someone else. Angelica's a monster, too. I wish I could, but never mind." Angelica then walked away sad and wondering what she should do since it's dangerous to get back together with Joseph, but they'll remain heartbroken if she doesn't.

When sundown came, Joseph started to become a werewolf and ran off while Megan tried to find Angelica somewhere in town. Megan first checked the cemetery since vampires are always dead. Megan shouted, "Angelica! I don't know if you can hear me, but if you can, please answer!" Since Megan couldn't find Angelica in the cemetery, she decided to look at the bat exhibit at the zoo. Megan shouted, "Angelica!" Once Megan yelled, she scared all the bats and made them fly around the display. Then Megan screamed and ran out of the exhibit. Megan said, "Well, it's safe to say none of those bats were Angelica. Maybe Franco will cheer him up."

Megan went to Franco's house after sundown and rang the bell, but no one answered. The vampires then arrived, brought out their net guns, and aimed them at Megan. Then they shot nets at her and took Megan as a prisoner. Angelica remembered that Megan was Joseph's sister and felt she needed to protect her. Angelica said, "No. Don't do this, Matt." Matthew stated, "Sorry, but she's the sister of a werewolf. And what better way to catch a werewolf than with their sibling." Joseph then arrived with his amulet glowing red and kicked Matthew away. Joseph said, "You leave my sister alone." Joseph held a pointy stick up to the vampires and got Angelica behind him. Chris stated, "A wooden stake. Clever wolf." Chris made his eyes glow red and said, "Drop the wooden stake." Then he hypnotized Joseph, and Joseph dropped the wooden stake. Matthew stated, "I apologize in advance for this, Angelica." The vampires shot nets at Joseph and Angelica, caught them, and took them as prisoners.
