The Mission

Your POV

It was now early March and spring break was fast approaching. Then, we'd be third years. The last month has been busy for us. There seemed to be curses popping up everywhere.

It was a bit of a hassle and honestly a little worrying. We didn't know why there were so many. Mission after mission, training and more training—it never seemed to end. Satoru and Suguru still had their rivalry going on and I still hadn't made a decision. I had told myself I'd pick soon, but soon never seemed to come. But still, we were content for the most part.

I hummed softly, sitting on the bench outside of the dorms. I had my textbook sitting on my lap, reading through the last chapter of Jujutsu World History. It was quite interesting to learn about the jujutsu world and how it became what it is today. Not to mention it was basically my family history written down for me to read.

"Hey, Y/N," Shoko called to me, making me look up. "Yaga has a mission for the second years. Come on."

"Okay," I replied, snapping the book shut and quickly running to my room, tossing it on my bed and grabbing my staff before following Shoko to the classroom. We entered, seeing Suguru and Satoru sitting at the desks already as Yaga stood in front of them.

Shoko and I took our seats as Yaga began to explain, "Now that you're all here, let's get started. You four will be sent on a mission to retrieve two sorcerers—Mei Mei and Utahime. They went on a mission to a 'haunted house' and haven't been in contact for two days. It's your job to bring them back."

"Wait, two days?  Why did we wait so long?" I asked with furrowed brows, feeling a little angry that we hadn't been made aware sooner. Utahime was our friend and Mei Mei... was a fellow sorcerer. To be honest, I didn't like her much, but still.

"I don't assign missions, Inazuma," Yaga replied shortly, "You'll be leaving immediately." We all stood up and began to make our way toward the exit, Yaga calling out after us, "Make sure you don't do anything stupid!"

"Yeah, yeah!" Satoru waved him off with a grin.

The four of us walked to the front entrance of the school. I turned to my friends, asking, "So, who wants to put up the veil?"

"I will," Satoru replied confidently.

I shrugged, mumbling, "Well, that wasn't hard." The veil was the easiest part. All it took was a few simple words, but nobody ever felt like doing it. I wasn't sure why he volunteered, but I wasn't complaining.

"So... we're getting there how exactly?" Shoko asked as we stood at the gates.

Just then, a familiar black car pulled up and Yasu rolled down the window. I grinned and slid into the back middle seat, asking, "How'd you get here so fast?"

"Call it intuition," he retorted, reaching back and ruffling my hair as Shoko got in the front and the boys got on either side of me.

"Sure," I replied with a playful eye roll. More than likely, my dad was informed about the mission prior and he sent Yasu to take us since we were so short staffed. Yasu didn't usually help on missions, but he was technically an assistant supervisor in a pinch.

The drive wasn't too long, but it was long enough for me to worry a little about Utahime. She was strong, sure. But short staffing of sorcerers leads to students taking on jobs they're not ready for.

"Hey," Suguru called, grabbing my attention and stopping the tapping of my staff against the floorboard. He smiled at me reassuringly as I looked over at him, "They'll be fine."

I nodded slowly, "Yeah... you're right. I should stop worrying."

"You should," Satoru added, making me look at him as he grinned, "It breaks my heart to see a frown on that gorgeous face."
