It was one of those crisp autumn mornings in Munich, the kind where the air was fresh but still laced with a hint of warmth,as if summer wasn't quite ready to let go. Dina stood by her window, staring out at the city below, the distant hum of life slowly waking up around her. Today wasn't just any day—it was match day. And it wasn't just any match. It was Bayern Munich, the team she and her best friend Laura had worshipped since their teenage years, taking on Borussia Dortmund in one of the biggest games of the season.
Dina hadn't been to a match in months, but when Laura had managed to snag two tickets to the Allianz Arena,Dina hadn't been able to say no. After all,how could she? It was Bayern, her favourite team,in the stadium she loved more than any place in the world. But there was something more about today —a sense of excitement bubbling up inside her, like something significant is going to happen, though she couldn't place why.
A sharp knock at her door pulled Dina from her thoughts. She opened it to find Laura standing there, already decked out in her Bayern Munich scarf and jersey, practically vibrating with excitement.
"Are you ready yet? We need to leave if we're going to get good seats for the pre-match warm-up!" Laura said, her eyes wide with enthusiasm.
Dina laughed and grabbed her own scarf from the back of the couch. "I'm ready,I'm ready. You've been hyping this up all week. You'd think you were the one playing."
Laura grinned as they stepped into the elevator. "I live for this,Dina. The atmosphere, the chants, the players. Especially Jamal Musiala—I swear, every time I see him play,it's like poetry in motion. He's going to be the next legend."
Dina rolled her eyes affectionately.
Laura had been going on and on about Jamal for months now. He was Bayern's young star, incredibly talented and humble, always giving his all on the pitch. But Dina hadn't paid him much attention, preferring to focus on the team as whole. She respected his talent, sure, but Laura had practically turned him into a superhero."I know,I know. Jamal Musiala, the golden boy," Dina teased, nudging her friend as they exited the building.
Laura gave her a mock glare. "You'll see. One day,he's going to be the talk of the world, and I'll remind you that I called it first."
They made their way to the subway, which was buzzing with the same excitement they felt. People in red and white jerseys flooded the platform, chanting Bayern Munich songs and laughing with their friends. The energy was contagious, and Dina found herself smiling, caught up in the pre-game euphoria.
As they boarded the packed train,Laura squeezed next to Dina, already joining in with a group of fans singing one of the team's chants. Dina let herself relax, soaking in the atmosphere. She loved days like this. There was something special about match day—the camaraderie, the shared passion. It was like the entire city came alive in the support of their team.
The ride to the Allianz Arena didn't take long, but as they neared the stadium, the anticipation in the air became electric. Dina could feel her heart beating a little faster, the excitement finally settling in. She hadn't realised how much she had missed this—the buzz of the crowd, the roar of the stadium, the feeling that anything was possible on the pitch.
When they stepped off the train and approached the towering Allianz Arena,Dina paused for a moment, taking it all in. The sheer size of the stadium always left her in awe,its red exterior glowing like a beacon of passion and pride. Thousands of fans were already swarming towards the entrances, their chants growing louder as they neared the gates.
"This is what we live for," Laura said, pulling Dina out of her thoughts. "Let's get inside before we miss the warm-up!"
Dina followed her friend, weaving through the crowd, their scars trailing behind them like flags. The smell of bratwurst and beer filled the air, vendors shouting out offers for snacks as they passed by. It was like entering another world—a world where the only thing that mattered for the next two hours was football.
They found their seats in the lower tier, close to the pitch, and Dina couldn't help but grin. The view was incredible. She could see the grass, perfectly manicured, and the players warming up in the distance. Laura immediately pulled out her phone, snapping photos as the Bayern players jogged across the field.
"There he is!" Laura squealed, pointing towards the far end of the pitch. "Jamal Musiala,in the flesh. Look at him,Dina. He's magic."
Dina squinted, following Laura's line of sight. Sure enough, there was Jamal, effortlessly moving the ball, his focus intense even during warm-up. He had a kind of ease about him,as if he was born to do this, every moment fluid and graceful. Dina couldn't deny it—he was impressive.
"Okay,I'll give it to you," Dina said, smiling at Laura's excitement. "He's good."
Laura beamed. "He's more than good. Just wait until the game starts."
The match began with a roar of the crowd as Bayern took possession early, controlling the ball with precision. Dina found herself getting lost in the game, her focus shifting between the players, her heart racing with every near goal. Laura,of course, kept a close eye on Jamal, cheering loudly every time he touched the ball.
By the 30th minute, the stadium was on its feet as Bayern pressed forward in a fast break. Jamal darted through the Dortmund defense, his quick footwork leaving defenders stumbling in his wake. He passed the ball with perfect timing, setting up a beautiful goal for one of his teammates. The stadium erupted in cheers, and even Dina couldn't help but leap to her feet, joining in the celebration.
"Did you see that?!" Laura screamed over the noise, her face lit up with joy. "That was all him!"
Dina nodded,laughing. "Yeah,okay. I'm officially impressed."
As the game progressed,Bayern held onto their lead, and Jamal continued to shine. Dina found herself watching him more closely, admiring his skill and composure. There was something captivating about the way he played—calm, confident, but with an undeniable fire that made him stand out from the rest.
When the final whistle blew and Bayern had secured a 2-0 victory, the crowd erupted once more, chanting the team's name. Laura grabbed Dina's arm,her face flushed with excitement. "That was amazing! We have to stay for the post-match stuff. Maybe we can get a glimpse of the players."
Dina hesitated, but Laura's excitement was contagious. "Alright, let's see what we can do."
As the crowd began to filter out of the stadium,Dina and Laura made their way towards the players' exit, where a small group of dedicated fans had already gathered. They waited patiently, watching as one by one,the players began to emerge, giving quick waves to the fans before heading off to their cars.
"Come on,just a glimpse of Jamal and my day will be made," Laura said, bouncing on her toes as they waited.
It wasn't long before Jamal appeared, still in his kit,his hair damp from the game. He looked tired, but there was a small smile on his face as he waved to the group of fans calling his name. He started to walk towards the exit when,to Dina's surprise,he stopped suddenly, his gaze landing directly on her.
For a moment,Dina was frozen in place, her heart skipping a beat as Jamal's eyes met hers. He looked at her as if he recognised her, which was impossible,of course. They'd never met. But there was a spark of curiosity in his gaze, something that made Dina feel like she was the only person standing there.
Laura was too busy snapping photos to notice, but Dina couldn't move. Jamal smiled softly—just a small, almost imperceptible smile—and gave her a nod before turning and heading towards his car.
It was over in seconds, but it left Dina feeling breathless.
"Did you see that?!" Laura exclaimed, tugging at Dina's arm. "I swear he looked right at us! Oh my God,this is the best day of my life!"
Dina blinked,trying to steady herself.
"Yeah... I think he did"As they walked back towards the train station,Dina's mind was racing. She couldn't shake the feeling of Jamal's eyes on her, that brief connection that had left her heart racing. It was ridiculous, really. He was a football star, and she was just a fan in the stands. But still... there was something about that moment.
Laura continued to gush about the game all the way home, but Dina barely heard her. All she could think about was that one fleeting look, and the strange feeling that, somehow, this wouldn't be the last time their paths crossed.
