Kids raced towards their parents like they had separation anxiety for a few hours away from them. My five year old son was the only one who was swaggering towards my car without any sort of haste. He took his time, making sure to say his goodbyes to those closest to him. I peeped the little girl that had him acting cool and smirked to myself, shaking my head. Kairo was growing so fast. I was just twenty, and Kiana was twenty-one when she had him. We were in our mid twenties now, raising a kindergartener.

Finally, Kairo reached my beamer truck. "It's about time, gang. Shit, thought I was gon' have to come snatch yo ass up for a second. You acting famous or something" I joked and dapped him up. Strapping him into the car seat, I made sure he was secured then closed his door.

As I was walking back around to the driver's side, my peripheral caught a little boy who looked identical to the girl I saw earlier. He was just lighter. The resemblance was uncanny. Curiously, I followed the direction he ran in with my eyes and there she was. Envi Engel. The target's girl was sitting passenger side. My mind put two and two together.

"Dad" Kairo snapped me out of my scheming. "Wassup?" I checked the rear view, starting the car up. My gaze wouldn't stay away from the pink range for too long. "Can you play the new Chief Keef?" I snickered at my son having my exact taste in music. Relaxing into my seat, I waited for the pink range rover to move, then eased behind the car that separated us. Obliging Kairo, Chief Keef blared from my expensive sound system. Word for word, Kairo rapped along. He slipped in some curse words that I allowed only because my focus was trained on the clean whip.

Suddenly, my phone interrupted the rapper. I looked towards the screen and my baby mama's name was displayed on it. Hitting answer, her voice replaced the music. "Where is you at with my son?"

"I just picked him up from school. I'm a stop by somewhere and get him something to eat then I'm a head home. Don't you gotta work tonight?" I asked her. Kiana smacked her lips, sounding annoyed already. She was made up of mostly attitude anyway. It didn't take much to irritate her. I used to think all that was cute in my teens and early twenties, but now, she aggravated me. Our co-parenting relationship wasn't the best because of her funky attitude. "Yeah, which is why I wanted to see him before I go to work. I was on my way to pick him up. Nobody asked you to do it"
