sooooo.... that took longer than I thought it would, but here it is. The only problem is that I can't think of a song lyric, so if you think of one, PLEASE tell me. thank you! have fun reading and please vote and comment!

Wylie listened from his room as his adoptive dad greeted Linh at the door.

"Linh! What a pleasure to see you! Happy birthday!"

Teirgan was always glad to see Linh, probably because she made Wylie happy, but also because it gave him something to do. Namely eavesdropping.

As for the fact that he had kept track of when her 18th birthday was... well, Wylie had at least convinced himself that he was oblivious to his dad's reasoning on that front.

He heard gentle knocking on his door, and, perking up, said, "Come in!"

Linh, smiling, walked in, looked perfect as always, with her long black hair and her smile and her beautiful eyes.

She was breathtaking.

"Wylie!" Linh said, rushing over to very gently hug him, so as to not make his injuries hurt. "I brought you Butterblasts."

She opened a cookie box to reveal about 6 of both of their favorite desserts, before popping one into her mouth. Taking his Ican'tstoplookingatyouhelp stare wrong, she said defensively, "Wha? Der fer me too!"

Wylie grinned. "Did you make them?"

Linh hesitated, chewed, swallowed, and said, "no. My mom did."

"Oh." Wylie paused. "Why?"

"Well... she remembered it was my birthday. And... I think she was trying to tell me something. I guess she was acknowledging that it really was my birthday. So... in her own convoluted way... she was apologizing?"

"Huh." Wylie said quietly. "Weighted dessert."

"Yeah..." whispered Linh. She shook her head, seemingly to clear it. "Sorry."

"Don't be. You know you can talk to me about anything. I'm there for you. Whenever you need me."

Linh smiled sadly, and hugged him again, saying, "Thanks, Wylie."

His heart was going WAY faster than normal as she buried her head in his shoulder.

Too soon, she broke away, picking up a butter blast as she did so.

"Here." she said, handing it to him.

He grabbed it, and took a bite, grinning as the happy taste filled his mouth.

"I mean, to Mai's credit -words I never thought I'd say- she makes good sweets"

Linh nodded, taking another one. "So. How are you feeling?"

Wylie's face darkened. "A little better every day, thanks to you."

"Good. You wanna play top three?" Top three was a game that they had made a few days after Wylie had become conscious again. They each shared the three best things that had happened to them that day, and, if they felt like they needed it, the three worst.

It had always been something to make them laugh, and to make them unload whatever was going on.

It, like so much else, brought them closer together.

Soon after the game's creation however, they had had to make a rule that being with the other one could not be a highlight, since it had taken up the top slot almost every time.

"Ok," said Wylie, "so, the only interesting thing that happened before you got here is that my dad and Forkle visited."

Normally Teirgan or Wylie, and sometimes both, would go visit Prentice in his small cabin, but today, his dads had both been feeling up to it, so he had come over here.

"Oooh, what happened?" Linh always liked stories about Forkle's weirdness, or about Wylie's dad's OBVIOUS feelings.

"Right." Wylie grinned. "Well, Forkle complained for like 20 minutes about how the world was in shambles-"

"So, the usual." Linh interrupted.

"Pretty much. But today was extra weird. Apparently, Sophie found out who one of her bio parents is," Linh's eyebrows rose. "Yeah. and, according to Forkle, she's gonna somehow wreck the council or something. BUT, every time we tried to ask how, or who it was, he just rubbed his forehead, talked about how all this noise -the noise of our small, quiet questions, mind you, while he was rattling away- was giving him a headache! So anyway, he was in this reality where Sophie ruins everything. So I suggested that maybe we should take some of the enormous pressure off of her, at which point he started yelling that the moonlark was the future, and then went off on that tangent. But, it's Forkle, and us three were barely suppressing laughter the whole time, so that definitely takes third.

"In second place is when my dads went into the kitchen to 'make tea for Forkle's headache', leaving me ALONE with him. Which entailed me trying not to smirk too much while he muttered insults about, I think, every single elf in the Lost cities, with all of the ones for anyone under 200 years old starting with 'you kids'. And mind you, 'making tea'? That lasted about half an hour."

Linh laughed. "So, what's first?"

You, Wylie thought, though he knew he couldn't say it. Your beautiful face and your beautiful voice and and your heart filled with kindness.

"It's a tie between the butter blasts, and my dads two minute long goodbye hug, which I actually timed. But the butter blasts might just pull through."

"Ok, for me, third might be when my mom gave me the butter blasts. I feel bad about it, but... It was nice?" Linh said, not looking at him.

"Don't feel bad." Wylie said, taking her hand. "You're right. It was nice. And it's not bad to feel that way."

"I guess." Linh said doubtfully, her face turning red. "Thanks. Ok, so two was when Marella almost set my dad's hair on fire, and then I put it out and ruined his perfect gel-ness. And one was definitely when Tam came over earlier. You will not guess what's happened."

"Hm. If it's the best thing... I doubt it's him announcing his love for creepy cat lady..." he mused.

Linh snorted, "Couldn't be farther from the truth."

"Okaaaay. Oh, did he dye all of his hair silver?"

"No! Ew. He is... Dating Marella!!!"

Sudden relief filled Wylie, and the next words that came out of his mouth were involuntary. "And that's the best thing that happened to you today?"

"Uh... Yeah! Why wouldn't it be?"

"Well... I thought you liked Marella." Wylie admitted.

Linh's jaw fell open, and she laughed. "Nooooo. No, definitely not. You know I just like guys, right?"

"Well, yeah," Wylie said slowly, "but you and Marella just seemed so close..."

"Duh! She's my third best friend!"

Wylie couldn't help himself. "3rd?"

"Tam, You, Marella."

Wylie's face got warmer.

They stared at each other for a second, and suddenly Wylie couldn't take it any more.

"Linh, I like you!" He burst out. "And I know I'm stupid to say it, but I really, really do! And I-I know better than anyone that anything could happen. That time is precious. So I'm saying this now, because I like you so much, and because right now, I can say it. And if you don't say it back, I will still be your friend, and I... Just needed to tell you how I felt."

He stopped, and looked into her pretty gray blue eyes breathlessly.

Linh was quiet for a while, and Wylie was so scared, but then-

She leaned forward, and pressed her lips to his.

"That's a 'yes', then?" He mumbled, tracing his fingers down her jawline.

"What do you think?" She whispered.

In answer, he pulled the kind, beautiful, amazing girl in front of him to him, and kissed her.
