Anya

It's two in the morning and one can hear the incessant singing of crickets. Everybody at home were resting in peace to look fresh as daisy in the morning. As from tomorrow the ceremonies of my wedding will begin, I had only tonight to decide for my life ahead.

For straight ten minutes, I was standing perched upon the lower railing in the verandah of my room. The moment was calm, or I could say the calm before the storm, with white fairy lights decorated all over the bungalow and the wind signifying the oncoming rain were blowing. But my heart was anxious. My mind was busy pondering, whether to take the life altering decision or not.

Gathering my determination again, I pulled my right leg over the top railing, followed by the left one and balanced myself on the other side.

"Three. Two. One." As I finished counting, without giving any second thought, I was on all fours kissing the ground while silently groaning in pain. For thinking that a jump from second storey would be effortless, I landed in the garden rather miserably.

Somehow I managed to walk but stumbled upon my next barricade, the guard. He was newly hired so it might have been quite difficult to talk my way out with him.

I hide behind the bushes and picked up a stone nearby. To distract the guard, I threw the stone little away, from the ironed main gate, so that he could hear it and move away from my way.

As the guard came inside the garden to inspect the matter, I hurriedly ran to the ironed doors and opened them. Of course, they had to make sound. Closing my eyes in frustration, I ran like my life depended on it. As it was.

"Chor! Chor!" (Thief! Thief!) The guard was shouting and was running right behind me.

I ran aimlessly, regardless of the time and entered in an empty alleyway. Taking a look behind me, I realised that nobody was following me anymore. I halted, pulled the hood down my head and gulped the much needed oxygen. I took out the water bottle from my backpack and quenched my thirst. Putting my hood back on my head, I proceeded with my way limpingly.

As I took another step, I halted and looked down. Realizing, I mistakenly stepped on the tail of a sleeping dog, now wide awake and very much irated, all air sucked out of me.

Without breaking eye contact with the doggo, I tried to creep away. Canines on full display and stance as ready to attack, a bark boomed. I screamed and ran towards the other end of the alley.

In my desperation to loose the dog I didn't notice the person came running in front of me and my head collided with his chest. "Ow!" Instinctively, the man was rubbing his chest in pain.

I quickly looked behind me and found the doggo retreating away. Sighing in relief, I turned my head to take a look at the person and both of our eyes widened. At the same time we uttered.

"You?"

"Anya? I thought some churail is screaming at this time."(witch)
