The early morning sun peeked through the curtains, casting a warm glow over the quiet bedroom. Well, quiet except for the faint grumbling coming from the other side of the bed.
“Minjeong, stop kicking the blankets,” Karina mumbled, her voice thick with sleep. She tugged on the corner of the quilt, trying to keep it from being completely stolen from her. But her wife, Minjeong, was a notorious blanket thief.
Minjeong, still half-asleep, mumbled something incoherent and flipped over, taking an even bigger portion of the blanket with her. Now Karina was fully awake and cold.
“Seriously?” Karina groaned, sitting up in bed and glaring at her oblivious wife, who was now wrapped in what looked like a cocoon made entirely of their shared blanket. "How can someone so small take up so much space?"
It had been two years since their wedding—a chaotic, beautiful affair with Minjeong laughing through the entire vows and Karina trying to look serious, but eventually breaking into giggles too. Life had been an adventure since then, mostly filled with love, laughter, and a few petty squabbles over blanket territory.
Karina leaned over, poking Minjeong’s cheek. “Minjeong. Yoo Minjeong.”
“Mmmm?” Minjeong groaned, her eyes still closed, snuggling deeper into the blanket.
“Do you realize you’ve taken all the blankets?” Karina asked, raising an eyebrow even though she knew Minjeong couldn’t see it. "Again?"
“Sharing is caring,” Minjeong mumbled into the pillow, barely conscious.
Karina rolled her eyes, already used to this early morning ritual. “Sharing? Really? Because it looks like I’m doing all the caring, and you’re doing all the stealing.”
Minjeong opened one eye, peeking at Karina with a mischievous smile curling at her lips. “I’m cold, unnie.”
“You’re always cold!” Karina threw her hands up, exasperated but unable to hide the fondness in her voice. She sighed dramatically and got out of bed, grabbing the spare blanket they kept in the closet for exactly this reason.
As she wrapped herself up and sat back on the edge of the bed, Minjeong snickered softly. “You look like a little burrito,” she teased.
Karina shot her a glare, but it didn’t last long. Minjeong had a way of diffusing any tension with just a smile, and right now, she was grinning like she’d won some major victory in their little morning battle.
"Well, you look like an overgrown caterpillar," Karina shot back, but she couldn't suppress a chuckle as she looked at her wife, completely wrapped up in the quilt like she was about to metamorphose into some kind of quirky butterfly.
Minjeong rolled over, unwrapping herself just enough to stretch out her arms and reach for Karina. “Come back here,” she whined, her voice still sleepy but playful now. “I need my morning cuddle.”
Karina eyed her suspiciously. “You mean you need a second victim for your blanket-stealing operation.”
Minjeong laughed, the sound light and infectious. “I promise not to steal any more blankets,” she said, her voice dripping with innocence. “Scout’s honor.”
“You were never a scout,” Karina pointed out with a grin, but she gave in anyway, crawling back into bed and slipping under the edge of the blanket Minjeong had freed for her. “But I’ll take my chances.”
As soon as Karina settled in, Minjeong wrapped her arms around her, pulling her close. “See? Isn’t this better?” she murmured, resting her head on Karina’s shoulder.
