*doorbell rings*
"Coming!!... " yelled Steff from the kitchen. Mornings were a mess.
" Mam, these were sent to your address ..." mumbled the postman.
He'd been confused about why such an expensive parcel be gifted to such a shabby address.Steff felt the second-hand embarrassment and nodded dumbly,
closing the door. There was a letter attached.
' Dear Stephanie,
I am sorry to inform you of the late demise of Mr. Robert Moors, your grandfather. We have recieved a will informing his decision in transferring his assets under your name instead of your parents. The parcel contains flight tickets on Saturday to Pittsburgh. Carry your essentials and recognition documents. Please be present for the court hearing scheduled soon.Family lawyer,
Charles V. 'This had to be a joke.
For someone who had been told that her parents were dead, 2 years after her birth, this was pure horror.
She sat down quietly, analyzing the details of the letter.
Moors.
She was their heir now. She had despised her lifestyle for so long, it was no surprise if she suddenly disappeared. Nobody would know.
Except him.She still thought he would be out there somewhere.
Coming back to reality, she wrapped the parcel back and put it away for now. SHE COULD NOT BE LATE.
Life was giving her a chance, she
ought to take it. Rushing outside, with a tumbler of instant coffee and some toast, Steff caught the bus.The bus was crowded. As usual, she stood uncomfortably pressed against a few people. Then it sank.
Money. It is not God, but it is not less than God either. She had to go with the flow and see what this 'FAMILY' drama was all about.
Just then her phone rang.
" Mr.Lawrence 🥸"
Smiling faintly, she held it to her ear." Wondering if you remember me ?"
" Umm... are you the library guy ?"
" I was wondering if we could meet again...."
" Not now Mr.Lawrence , I have a job to do "
" No... I meant like on Saturday. "
" I have a business trip... I'm sorry. "
" oooohh that's totally fine. It's just...
Okay... I-I had plans for a movie. Maybe next time "
She giggled silently. "SURE. Ok then, Good Day ."
