___________

It was around ten at night. Both Abhimanyu and Shravni had reached home. As soon as they arrived, Abhimanyu was put on kitchen duty to make dinner, while Shravni sat comfortably in the living room, watching TV. In just a short while, Abhimanyu came into the living room holding two bowls. He handed one to Shravni and sat down next to her. When Shravni saw the noodles in the bowl, she made a face and said, "What is this, Abhi? Noodles?"

Abhimanyu replied, "Oh hello! I’m tired too. I don’t have the energy to stand in the kitchen for an hour and cook you dinner. Got it?"

Shravni responded, "But I eat this every day, right? Why are you here? Couldn’t you make a tasty dinner for me today?"

Abhimanyu softly said, "Looks like I’ve shot myself in the foot by coming here."

Shravni couldn’t hear him properly and asked, "What did you say?"

Changing the subject, Abhimanyu said, "Nothing... nothing at all. I’ll cook tomorrow, okay? I’m really sleepy today."

Shravni didn’t push him further because she knew Abhimanyu was truly exhausted. They quickly had dinner and went to their room. As Shravni sat on the bed, she said, "Come here, Abhi!"

Understanding her gesture, Abhimanyu came close, rested his head in her lap, and said, "This is all the peace I need. Being near you makes me feel like all my problems have vanished."

Smiling, Shravni ran her fingers through his hair and said, "Really? By the way, how long are you staying?"

Abhimanyu, a little saddened, said, "Until tomorrow. I have an early morning flight the day after. I can’t delay work for too long."

Shravni, "Okay. It’s only a matter of a few days. I’ll come back to India soon too."

In a distant tone, Abhimanyu said, "You know, Chindi! I had given up the idea of making you mine. Even in dreams, I had started fearing your presence. But now, having you so close, by my side, it feels like I’ve gained everything in the world. Like I’ve got my life back."

Shravni smiled and said, "I had similar thoughts, Abhi! The idea of you being not close to me was like a punishment for me."

Abhimanyu, "Fate plays such strange games, doesn’t it? There was a time when it put us at a crossroads, and a wall of misunderstandings arose between us. And now, fate has brought us so close, into each other’s arms."
