Abhimanyu and Shravni had left Neel’s house. In the car, there was an unusual silence. Shravni was looking outside the window. Breaking the silence, Abhimanyu asked, “What’s up, Chindi?”

Shravni looked at him, startled, and asked, “Huh? Did you say something?”

Abhimanyu replied, “I asked, what are you thinking about?”

Shravni took a deep breath and said, “About Ishani. Just a few days ago, she was so happy. Looking at her, you’d never think she had any sorrow in her life. And now, look at fate—she’s lying there like a lifeless body, like a living corpse.”

Abhimanyu replied angrily, “No, Shivi! This isn’t fate’s doing. Don’t blame fate. Everything that happened is because of those monsters who left Ishani in this state. I won’t spare them.”

In a lost tone, Shravni said, “But there are millions of Ishanis in this world who don’t have anyone like Abhimanyu Roy to fight for them or take their revenge.”

Abhimanyu asked, “What do you mean? I don’t understand.”

Shravni continued, “Like Neel said today, he doesn’t want to punish anyone. He just wants to keep Ishani safe. It made me think about how many girls, after being raped, aren’t even allowed to face society. There must be so many cases that are buried only because of the fear of losing societal status or honor. Don’t those girls live their lives suffocating?”

Agreeing with her, Abhimanyu said, “You’re right. People consider rape a stain on a girl’s honor. But people are society. We create society. We need to change it. We look at rape victims with such judgmental eyes that their spirits break. And yet, they are not at fault. Someone else commits the crime, and someone else suffers the punishment. As for Neel, he’s troubled right now, and I know he doesn’t think that way.”
