You Found Me

Chapter 1.5: Secret

           "Hi, um- I'm sorry for not texting you. I just wanted to talk to you in person." Nick says while the rain pours around him, soaking his hair and shirt.

           "Just- Just get in here, you're getting soaked." Daniel said, stepping out of the way so he could enter, shutting the door behind him. "Did you forget a coat?" Daniel continued when they were now both standing in the entryway, noticing his soaked shirt.

            "Oh uh.." Nick pauses to look down at his shirt "I forgot to check the weather before I left."

             The two boys chuckle before falling into an awkward silence, Nick turning serious. "So about last night- I just wanted to say-" Nick says looking down at his feet.

             "Nick?" Daniel's mom interrupts from behind them "I didn't know you were coming around." Mrs.Spring says, causing Nick to stutter.

             "He's just here to pick up a jumper he left last time." Daniel explains quickly as he starts his way up the stairs, Nick closely behind him.

             As soon as they reach Daniel's room he starts apologizing. He messes with the sleeves of his hoodie as he avoids eye contact. "I'm so sorry. I wasn't thinking properly. I was stupid and I don't want you to feel awkward. It's all my fault. I shouldn't have kissed you. You probably just felt pressured to kiss me because I asked. You probably don't want to talk to me ever again but I just had to say so-" Daniel rambles causing him to not hear how many times Nick tried to stop him.

         Nick quickly connects his lips to Daniel, cutting him off from his ramblings. Daniel leans on his tip toes slightly to reach Nick properly, not knowing what to do with his hands other than leave them at his sides. Nick kisses him so tenderly, holding his face like it could break. He leans his forehead on Daniel's as he pulls away.
        
          "God, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry I ran away last night. I was just completely freaking out because- I was confused. I was confused and surprised. And I'm honestly having a proper full- on gay crisis." Nick says as he moves to Daniel's bed, looking as if he could cry any second. 

           "And it's not like I didn't want to...kiss you.I just, I was just so confused. I've just been so, so confused. I just think I need time to figure this out." He continues as tears run down his face. Daniel pulls him into his chest letting him cry. He remembers how this felt when he went through it. It's so confusing to be anything other than straight or gay.

            Once Nick stops crying Daniel leads him back to the front door. "At school, Is it ok if we..." Nick starts looking nervous.

            "Keep this a secret?" Daniel says a bit sadly as he remembers how it was with Ben, but he knows Nick would never be like that.

             "I just don't know if I can like, come out as anything right now." Nick says with the same nervous tone as before.

            Daniel reassures him that it's fine before Nick takes an umbrella and makes his way outside. As Daniel watches him leave he quickly puts his shoes on with a tinge of panic in his chest. He runs after Nick, the rain pouring down on him.

            "Nick!" He yells after him causing him to stop as Daniel runs to him.

            "Did I forget something?" Nick said, confused as to why Daniel ran after him.

             Daniel looks around making sure no one is near before nodding and kissing the taller boy. It was short but sweet, leaving both of them in stunned yet happy faces. He pulls away quickly before smiling and running back to his house.
