Asgardian civilians scream as they run away or get killed by the Frost Giants. I spot Annabeth, Leo, Clarisse, Frank and Hazel, trying to deescalate things.
"GUYS!" I scream out, grabbing their attention as they all turn towards me and see that I'm currently trying to control a giant monstrous wolf.
Annabeth is the first to speak up, her voice laced with surprise. "Eric, what in Hades—?"
She's interrupted as a Frost Giant nearby notices the commotion and charges towards me and my friends, an ice club in its hand.
Luckily, Frank turns into a polar bear to deal with it. I notice Heimdall, who's just standing there as if this happens every bloody day.
"Why are you just standing by the Bifrost?!" I question. "Do something!"
Heimdall remains stoic, his eyes focusing on me and Fenrir, taking in the sight of me trying to control the massive wolf.
"My duty is to guard the bifrost. That is all." He replies, his voice firm and unwavering.
What. The. Fuck.
"...TO THE PALACE!"
I attempt to control Fenrir, trying to get him to ride me to Odin's palace but it's too late.
Because an immensely large fire giant with crackling flames for hair and eyebrows burst through the roof of the palace, wearing wears armour of blazingly hot iron and wielding a flaming iron sword 15 feet in length.
Yep. It's Surtr.
The screams and chaos around you grow louder as the people of Asgard see the embodiment of Ragnarok towering over them. The screams and chaos around me grow louder as the people of Asgard see the embodiment of Ragnarok towering over them.
It's begun. Ragnarok has started.
The city is in chaos. Citizens scream and run for cover, attempting to escape the terror of Surtur. The Frost Giants continue their assault, taking advantage of the panic to spread further destruction.
I regroup with the group, my efforts to control Fenrir have been successful by 1%.
"Hazel, alert my father in Niflheim! Rest all of you stay here and rescue the civilians and deal with the frost giants! I'll deal with Surtr."
Hazel nods and shadow travels away while the rest of the group looks at me with concerned expressions.
"Are you sure about this Eric?" Leo asks me.
"I'm never sure about anything." I beat Fenrir's back and ride him towards Surtr. The massive fire demon looms menacingly above, seemingly unperturbed by my challenge.
As I ride Fenrir towards Surtur, Sally ready in my hand, I'm keenly aware of the enormity of the task ahead.
"SURTR!" My voice thunders out, cutting through the chaos and clamor of the battle. The fire demon's glowing eyes turn towards you, his towering form swiveling to face me on Fenrir's back.
His gravelly voice rumbles through the air, carrying with it an ancient menace. "Ah, a challenger."
I snarl a bit before closing my eyes and taking a deep breath. Then, as Fenrir continues to ride towards Surtr, I leap off his back with Sally raised high, the sledgehammer ready to strike Surtr. The fire demon's eyes narrow as he sees me coming, his massive form unfurling more as he prepared to meet my attack.
With a mighty swing, I bring Sally down on Surtur, hoping to deal a significant blow to the elemental being.
"EAT FREEDO—"
My battlecry is cut short as Surtur swings a massive arm to block my attack. The impact reverberates through the air, the force of the block sending me flying backwards, still clutching Sally tightly.
I skid across the floor towards Clarisse, coughing in blood.
"Eric!" my girlfriend rushes towards me and helps me sit up straight. As she does so, I quickly iris message Hazel. "W-where's..where's my father?"
Hazel's face appears in the Iris message, her expression tense and worried. She looks around a moment before responding, her voice tinged with urgency.
"Eric, it's pandemonium here! I've found your father, but he's fighting some giant snake thingy!" She exclaims.
Annabeth's eyes widen. "Eric....could that be...Jormandur?"
My look darkens as I speak in a low tone. "Yes." I say as I get up while using Clarisse as support who looks at me.
"Eric, you look like shit. You sure you want to fight in this state?"
"Only if I die." I reply back. "Gods, of all the days my grandfather had to be in his Odinsleep..."
"Well, you just know he enjoys keeping things exciting," Leo quips, trying to lighten the mood.
I grit my teeth in annoyance, rare of me to show any. Picking up Sally, I drag her across the ground as I look around at the chaos. The bloodshed.
And then I begun to run.
I run and run until a Frost Giant grabs my leg and lifts me up into the air, slamming me into the ground repeatedly. I can hear the distant and faint cries of my friends in the air as waves of pain course through my already battered body.
Whack.
Whack.
Whack.
After what feels like an eternity, the giant growls in frustration and tosses me aside, discarding me like a ragdoll. I slam into the ground, body aching and bruised from the repeated impacts.
"ERIC!" Clarisse runs towards me and crouches next to me. Frank follows her.
"He needs the axe." He points out as he refers to Stormbreaker. But this whole quest has been nothing but to regain worthiness of Stormbreaker. And now...Ragnarok is occurring.
Clarisse tries to shake me awake but my eyes are shut and my breathing is shallow.
Silence.
Followed by more silence.
Luckily, my palm opens with blue sparks dancing across it.
