The atmosphere in Nova Terra shifted as the crew set about their tasks, the weight of suspicion hanging over them like a dark cloud. Mira Thompson felt the tension building with every passing moment, the fear and uncertainty palpable in the air. They were all on edge, aware that any misstep could lead to further chaos.

Mira had assigned groups to comb through the access logs and conduct interviews. As she moved through the station, she could see the strain on her colleagues’ faces. Whispers filled the corridors, and nervous glances were exchanged. Trust was fraying, and it was only a matter of time before it snapped.

She made her way to the control room, where Reyes and a few engineering crew members were reviewing the security footage. The screen flickered, displaying grainy images from various parts of the station.

“Any luck?” Mira asked, stepping closer.

“Not yet,” Reyes replied, his brow furrowed in concentration. “We’re trying to pinpoint any unusual activity before the lockdown. It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack.”

Mira nodded, feeling the weight of the investigation pressing down on her. “We need to identify who had access to the hydroponics bay, especially around the time Dr. Patel went missing.”

Just then, Tara entered, her expression anxious. “Lieutenant, we’ve found discrepancies in the inventory logs, but it’s worse than we thought. Several vials of the volatile compound were checked out under false names.”

Mira’s stomach dropped. “False names? Who?”

Tara shook her head, her eyes wide. “We haven’t been able to trace them yet. But it means someone was trying to cover their tracks.”

“Get me those names as soon as possible,” Mira ordered, her mind racing. “If someone is using aliases, they’re likely involved in the sabotage. We need to confront them.”

As Tara left to gather more information, Mira turned her attention back to the screen. Images flickered by, showing crew members bustling about their duties. Then, a figure caught her eye—a shadow moving quickly through the hydroponics bay just before the lockdown.

“Freeze that,” Mira instructed, and Reyes complied, pausing the footage. Mira leaned closer, her heart racing. “Who is that?”

Reyes squinted at the screen. “Looks like Dr. Yu… but I can’t be sure.”

“Let’s enhance that image,” Mira said, her pulse quickening. As the image sharpened, it became clear that it was indeed Dr. Yu. “What were you doing there?” she muttered under her breath.

“Lieutenant?” Reyes’s voice broke through her thoughts. “We need to talk to her about this.”

“Agreed. Let’s bring her in,” Mira said, her mind racing with possibilities. If Dr. Yu was involved in something she hadn’t disclosed, it could change everything.

As they left the control room, the tension in the station seemed to thicken. Crew members were still on edge, and whispers of mistrust filled the air. Mira could feel the anxiety in her own chest, but she pushed it aside, focusing on the task ahead.

When they found Dr. Yu in the common area, she was speaking with a few other crew members, her expression animated. Mira approached, determined to get to the bottom of the mounting suspicions.

“Dr. Yu, can we talk?” Mira said, her voice firm.

“Of course, Lieutenant. What’s wrong?” Dr. Yu replied, her demeanor shifting from casual to cautious.

“You were seen in the hydroponics bay just before the lockdown,” Mira stated, watching for any sign of guilt. “What were you doing there?”

Dr. Yu’s eyes widened, and she stammered. “I—I was just checking on the plants. I didn’t think it was important.”
