Mira Thompson’s heart raced as she and her team navigated the dimly lit corridors of Nova Terra. The oxygen levels had stabilized, but the threat of sabotage still loomed. They needed to confront Tara and uncover the truth behind the conspiracy that had nearly cost them their lives.
“Where do you think Tara is?” Reyes asked, glancing around as they approached the common area. The air felt charged with urgency, and every shadow seemed to harbor secrets.
Mira shook her head. “She could be anywhere. We need to check the last place we saw her—maybe she’s hiding out in the hydroponics bay.”
As they moved swiftly toward the hydroponics bay, Mira couldn’t shake the feeling that they were running out of time. The station had been rocked by chaos, and if Tara was still plotting, they had to act fast.
When they reached the entrance to the hydroponics bay, Mira paused, steeling herself. “Everyone, stay alert. We don’t know what we’re walking into.”
The doors slid open with a soft hiss, revealing the lush greenery of the hydroponics bay. The vibrant plants contrasted starkly with the tension in the air. Mira scanned the area, looking for any signs of Tara.
“Over there!” Reyes pointed to a shadowy corner where a figure was crouched, surrounded by equipment. As they approached, Mira’s heart sank—it was Tara, her expression a mix of fear and defiance.
“What are you doing here?” Tara demanded, her voice shaky as she backed away. “I didn’t mean for any of this to happen!”
Mira stepped forward, determination etched on her face. “We know about your plans with Logan. You need to tell us everything, or we’ll have no choice but to report this.”
“I was scared!” Tara exclaimed, tears brimming in her eyes. “Logan convinced me that we had to take control of the situation. I didn’t think it would go this far!”
“Control?” Mira echoed, anger flaring. “You put everyone at risk! Lives are at stake, and we can’t let this continue.”
Tara hesitated, glancing toward the equipment scattered around her. “I didn’t want to hurt anyone. I thought if we created a distraction, it would give us time to fix the real problems.”
Mira’s gaze sharpened. “What real problems?”
“There are issues with the station’s infrastructure—things that have been ignored for too long,” Tara confessed, her voice trembling. “Logan and I thought we could fix them if we just had a little time.”
Reyes stepped closer, his voice steady. “But jeopardizing everyone’s safety isn’t the answer. You need to help us fix this mess.”
Tara looked down, shame washing over her. “I know. But I found something while I was working in the storage room—something that could explain everything.”
“What do you mean?” Mira asked, intrigued.
Tara pointed toward a nearby cabinet. “I found a hidden compartment. It had schematics of the station’s systems—old designs that showed vulnerabilities. I thought it was a joke at first, but now I realize it’s serious.”
Mira’s interest piqued. “Can you show us?”
Tara nodded, leading them to the cabinet. She opened it carefully, revealing a small access panel. Inside lay a set of blueprints and notes, detailing critical areas of the station and potential weaknesses in the oxygen and power systems.
“This doesn’t make sense,” Reyes said, studying the documents. “Who would have access to these?”
“Anyone with maintenance privileges,” Tara replied, her voice barely above a whisper. “Logan and I thought we could use this to our advantage, but it looks like someone else might have been involved too.”
