Mei's Courage-A Lion King Story

I saved us both

Snowy mewed as she walked to my lap.

"Mufasa's gone, Snowy..." I softly cried. Snowy mewed sadly as I hugged her close. As for Rani and Simba, I didn't know where they had gone but I prayed in my heart that they would be safe. I cried for Simba, knowing that he won't have Mufasa around to see him grow up. Scar was coming now, and I shook with silent anger and rage for what he did to Mufasa. Tears were slipping out of my eyes.

"Simba's own dad...your own brother...why?! Why would you go and kill him?! I know you two didn't get along but what made you do it?!" I shook in grief and rage. It was time for me to reveal what really went down. "And yes...I was that hyena you saw...!" I added.

"Mei, I..." Scar started to say sadly.

"WHY?!" I shouted in grief. "Please don't lie to me...!" I softly pressed, new tears stinging my face.

"It was the venom inside of me, Mei." Scar explained sadly and softly. And surprisingly, he didn't lie to me, he was being honest. "My dark thoughts, the urges I have within me...everything leading up to the stampede, knowing that I did what I had to...knowing I can never take it back."

I wiped my tears away from my face.

"Still, you would've gotten help." I pointed out sadly, my voice softened.

"Believe me, Mei, I could have. Knowing me, I am a bit stubborn." Scar agreed sadly. "Promise me one thing..." he added.

"What's that?" I asked warily as Scar circled around me.

"Don't tell Sarabi and the Pride what happened. You can tell those closest to you, but don't tell the Pride." Scar instructed.

My eyes widened in shock. He would want me to keep the most heinous of crimes a secret, and after my mom told me to tell Sarabi what happened?!

"But that would be lying to the Pride! Look, I know you don't want to get caught, but you should tell them what happened!" I protested, wanting to do the right thing.

"Do it for me, Mei...please..." Scar softly and gently pressed.

I sighed, not knowing what to do. I looked up into the sunset sky while Scar circled around me.

He's got me where he wants me! What should I do?! I thought worried. But then I thought about Mama Bridget's advice: that sometimes we would make the hardest of choices and make it work. I then turned towards Scar, my choice decided. It was to protect the Pride and Sarabi; and to protect Simba and Rani from afar; wherever they were. I knew they were still alive and kept it tight lipped.

"You have my word." I said with finality in my voice.

"Good girl." Scar grinned slyly as his tail gently patted my forehead.

From afar, uncle Joshua, Ani and Uncle Eli found that Mufasa was dead. Eli and Anakin comforted Uncld Joshua; what was supposed to be a great day turned out to be a day of mourning.

"There's even worse news." Scar added. I was behind him, wiping my tears.

"What is it?" Uncle Eli asked.

I was about to say something but Scar's tail covered my mouth.

Didn't he just say that I could tell anyone close to me? I thought suspicious.

"I have just received word that Simba and Rani have also been killed. I couldn't save them both." Scar bowed his head in grief, as well as ignoring my glare.

"What?!" Uncle Eli gaped.

Scar gently urged uncle Joshua to transport us back to Pride Rock. I said my goodbyes to Mufasa as well as uncle Joshua.
