*Steve's POV*

It's been three days since the incident. Vee took a bullet for me. It went straight through her, almost killing her. But she's pushing through, even if she's still asleep.

I've basically been living in her room in the medical bay, only leaving to go to the bathroom while she gets her bandages changed.

The thought of her wanted to sacrifice her life for me made me feel special. Even though you can't really count it as a sacrifice, I still see it that way.

She got Bucky to shoot the man who wanted to kill me, not caring about her own life. She was able to avoid the knife, but still got shot by another man who we didn't see.

If only I was able to move quicker, I would've been able to take the bullet for her, or I could've used my shield to protect her.

She's been here for less than half a year for God's sake, how could I let this happen. I haven't been able to speak to Fury or write the mission report all because of the guilt.

We were able to complete the mission though, that's good I guess. But it costed us Vee.

Why do I feel like this? She's not dead. She's just sleeping like she has been doing for the last few days.

There was a knock on the door, it's Thor.

"Hey, Captain." He says before sitting down in the chair next to me. He grabbed Vee's hand and rubbed his finger over it.

"Thor."

"Are you alright? You don't seem so good." Thor looks at me, sounding worried.

"I'm fine, Thor, really."

"Then why haven't you returned to your room?"

"Because I don't wanna leave Vee alone here."

Thor wiggled his shoulders, getting a little more comfortable. These chairs aren't the best quality. "Then it's a good thing I'm here! Go take a shower, shave, eat, whatever!"

"Thanks for the offer, Thor, really, but I'm good."

He let out a sigh, still rubbing his finger over Vee's hand. He let go and stood up before walking out of the room.

When Bucky and I got to the tower with an injured Vee, everyone was kind of angry at us. Well mostly angry at me, because I'm the one who led this mission.

Everyone grew very fond of Vee fairly quickly. Once you cut through all the layers that keep her heart safe you'll get a key and be welcomed with open arms. Almost everyone on the team has reached the key, everyone except for me and Stark. Stark isn't really a fan of getting close to our teammates. And I try to avoid her as much as I can, even though it's hard because Bucky and Sam were the first two to reach the key to her heart.

But it's safe to say that I'm still at trying to get through layer one with a wet piece of paper.

But yeah, everyone is very fond of her. Which I completely get because when she thinks she's alone with someone she'll be the most lively person in the room. I once caught her dancing to Party In The U.S.A with Sam and Thor, she was singing the words while holding a spoon and jumping around the entire kitchen.

I almost admire her for the fact that she survived years without talking to anyone. I mean, it sounds hard, but she did have that AI thingy.

All of the sudden she started stirring in her sleep, she also started whimpering.

"Uhh, Bruce!" I yell, trying to catch Bruce's attention. Bruce walked in, but stopped when he saw Vee. "What is happening?"

"Nothing concerning, I think she's just having a bad dream or a flashback."
