sara waited and waited outside drew's apartment, her patience wearing thin. she'd been standing there for over ten minutes, and she was sure he was home because she could hear him moving around inside. the muffled sounds of footsteps and the occasional clatter only heightened her anxiety. after a moment of hesitation, she decided to knock again, her knuckles rapping against the door with a mix of hope and frustration."come on, drew," she muttered under her breath, feeling the weight of the conversation they needed to have pressing down on her. when two minutes passed with no response, her resolve began to crumble. she sighed, glancing one last time at the door, her heart racing with a mix of disappointment and determination.
it was time to leave; she wouldn't let him keep her waiting any longer. as she turned away, she felt a knot in her stomach, knowing this wasn't just about the conversation—it was about everything that had been left unsaid between them."wait, sara!" drew snapped, his voice sharp and laced with irritation. she turned back, her heart pounding as she met his gaze. he stood there, arms crossed and a scowl on his face, looking more annoyed than surprised. taking a deep breath, she stepped inside, the warmth of his apartment wrapping around her like a blanket.
as the door clicked shut behind her, nervousness washed over her. the familiar scent of his cologne mingled with the faint aroma of coffee, and she felt a rush of memories flood her mind. she could feel her palms sweating as she shifted her weight from one foot to the other, the weight of their unspoken words hanging heavily in the air. this was it; they needed to talk, but the thought of bringing it all up made her stomach churn.
"okay, look, drew," sara nervously rambled, trying to find the perfect way to break the news to him. "you're not pregnant, are you? because i've been noticing you gaining a bit more weight," drew answered, looking sara up and down. sara screwed her face up at his reply.
"no, i am not pregnant, and i'm coming here to tell you that i'm breaking up with you." she felt herself shrinking in her seat; it felt like the room around her was closing in, and drew seemed to loom larger and larger.
"i just can't do this anymore," she added, her voice barely above a whisper, the weight of her words hanging heavily between them.
