Chapter 4: Demon's Are Forbidden
Mira
I go to bed early and wake up early. I didn't know if that was healthy or not, but it worked for me. Yesterday was fun, but it still didn't feel right being out like that.
As soon as I got home, I texted Hope and Riley, then took a shower and put on my comfy clothes before collapsing into bed with Nightmare. We passed out right away.
The Next day, I woke up with Nightmare snuggled up against my feet as always. I smiled in awe before slowly getting out of bed, careful not to wake him. I rushed out of the room to start my reading for the day. I might as well skip breakfast and wait to order lunch later.
This morning, the girls sent me pictures of them at Barnes & Noble, dragging poor Jack along, who was probably only there for Riley's sake.
They bought the two books I recommended: one about a billionaire and his assistant, and the other about a werewolf and a human. Very spicy reads with great plots.
"Ah," I sighed, snuggling into my large, comfy gray couch, waiting for my stubborn but... sexy cat to wake up. I shook my head. "What the hell is wrong with me?" Why would I think my own cat was sexy? There's seriously something wrong with me.
He's my familiar! A damn cat! Not a man. But I wished he was. My god... something was definitely wrong with me.
I quickly jumped up to grab the spell book I'd left on the countertop, then settled back onto the couch to relax. I might as well read some of this for my morning reading.
I slowly opened the book, excited to explore it again, even though I'd gone through it many times before. It always thrilled me to dive into any book, especially spell books.
"Mhm, this is interesting." The first page I landed on was a spell designed to kill a demon. Demons—the most dangerous and untrustworthy creatures you could ever encounter. Ever since I could truly understand what the witches in the foster care system taught us—that was our school—I grasped why they were so dangerous.
They made deals, which could kill you if you didn't follow through. Centuries ago, demons made deals with witches, and let's just say they didn't always honor them, leading to witches being hanged.
Humans used to hang us for practicing witchcraft, a talent we were born with! But demons? They hung and burned us for breaking deals with them.
Ever since the first witch was executed in front of a whole coven centuries ago, we witches have kept our distance from demons, making them our enemies.
