You took your place near the Pankration ring, waiting for your match to be called.
You hadn't seen Dougier today, but your opponent was a close assosicate of his, leading you to reason that was why he wanted you to lose, so he could easily gain the rewards.
The crowd cheered as your name was called and you took to the ring, facing off against your opponent.
You reached out your fist, but he didn't tap it with his, choosing instead to turn his back on you and return to his corner wordlessly.
His disrespect almost made you reconsider losing on purpose, but that defiance was quickly shaken as you saw Dougier take up a position next to Deakin, smiling at you fakely.
You tsked as you moved to your corner, waiting for Roussimoff to call the match to start.
You quickly realised as the match started that your opponent was not skilled in hand to hand like you were, meaning it was going to be hard to make this loss look like anything other than a sheer embarrassment to you.
Why couldn't he have been at least a little challenging.
You went in for a punch, only for your opponent to charge you instead of dodging. His movement startled you and you were unable to react quickly as he got in close.
His hand connected with your stomach, pain radiating from that spot, but not the pain of a punch, this was something else.
You glanced towards Dougier seeing him giving you a small wave.
Bastard.
You looked down, seeing your opponents hand holding what looked like a sharp piece of broken pipe into your stomach, red starting to seep through your clothing.
Well, shit.
With what awareness you could gather, you reeled back before slamming your forehead into your opponents nose as hard as you could handle, causing him to stumble back, taking the pipe out of you in the process and causing the wound to bleed quicker.
You collapsed to the floor, trying frantically to press your hands against the bleeding wound.
"The Rat has collapsed!-" Roussimoffs voice rang out "-wait- The Rat has collapsed?!" black spots danced in your vision "-quickly- someone get- Sigewinne!"
Sigewinne checked your vitals. The wound in your stomach had been cleaned, stitched and bandaged. Luckily for you, the wound was mostly external with no major damage to any organs; at least, nothing your body wouldn't be able to fix itself with time.
She checked the bandages a final time before she gently pulled the thin blanket over you, leaving you to remain resting in the infirmary. You hadn't woken up since you had been brought there from the Pankration ring.
Your attacker had been taken by the guards, Wriothesley had been out of the fortress on business and was yet to be informed on the events so he could make a decision regarding the punishment of your attacker.
Sigewinne left you alone, confident nobody would try cause you further harm, but to be sure, she asked the guard to remain by the entrance to prevent anyone going in.
Wriothesley was set to return and she wanted to inform him immediently in person.
She waited patiently by the receptions elevator, playing with her clothing nervously as she watched the elevator descending towards the floor she was on.
"Sigewinne?" Wriothesley questioned, his brow furrowing at her appearance before him before he let out a sigh "don't tell me that rats done something?"
"Well, no, they've not done anything. . " she started ". . they were stabbed"
Wriothesleys expression changed and he started off down the hall, guesturing for Sigewinne to keep up with him "what happened?"
"Their opponent at the Pankration match had a broken pipe, they got close and well, you know-"
"They alright?"
"It's not the worst but they do still have a stab wound in their stomach" she shrugged "they won't exactly be moving for a while, they've not woken up yet either though. And, theyre running a temperature, but I'm not sure right now what's causing it"
Sigewinne struggled to keep up as Wriothesley walked with quick purpose towards the infirmary, pacing impatiently as they had to wait for the elevator to the right floor.
"Who did it?" Wriothesley demanded.
"The guards have them in confinement right now, we were waiting for you to get back" she explained. The guard moved aside to let the two passed as they entered the infirmary.
The empty infirmary.
Wriothesley turned to Sigewinne, unimpressed "if this is your idea of a joke-"
"I spent the better part of an hour cleaning and sewing them back up!" she defended "I wouldn't joke about a patient, or their condition!"
"Alright, but where are they?" he asked, guesturing towards the empty beds.
You slipped as you climbed the stairs, the sound ringing out as the two of them stared at the empty room. They spun around to see you near the top of the stairs.
"What are you doing?!" Sigewinne protested "you shouldn't be moving yet!"
You didn't respond but you had to get out of there, something in your mind was telling you you were in danger, and the nightmare you had woken up from didn't help. You hadn't been in the infirmary before making the anxiety you were suddenly feeling so much worse.
You finished up the last step, racing out of there.
"Wriothesley!" Sigewinne cried out.
"Already on it" he responded as he started after you.
You're vision blurred as pain radiated from your wound with each step. You grabbed your head in your hands. What was this feeling? this overwhelming fear? you had never felt anything like this before.
"Get back here, rat!" Wriothesley called out from behind you.
You started running again, heading towards the gaps in the floor, one of your favourite escape routes.
As you drew closer to the platform, you suddenly yelped out as the pain from your stomach forced you to fall to your knees. Your breathing frantic and almost painful as you seemed to be unable to draw in enough oxygen.
Your body gave out and you collapsed on your side. Warm hands gripped your shoulder, preventing you from hitting the floor.
"You stupid rat" Wriothesley scolded "you shouldn't be moving, let alone running!"
"It hurts" you hissed out quietly "something's not right"
"You're not right" he muttered "who the hell runs off like this after getting injured"
You were barely able to hear his words through the sound of your heart beating loudly in your head "Wriothesley. . " you managed out through your fading consciouness ". . make it stop, help me, please"
He was shocked by your words, and your use of his name, in all your years here you had never called him by his name. You have never once asked for his help, either. He felt a protective pang surge through him as your body went limp, blood seeping through the bandages. He picked you up easily, returning you to Sigewinne.
"Get me fresh bandages, now" Sigewinne barked out to her assistant as Wriothesley lay you down on the bed. There was a thin layer of sweat covering your brow, your breathing was uneven and your brow was furrowed and you eye lids were twitching as though you were having a bad dream.
"You said they were in confinement, yes?" Wriothesley asked simply.
"What?" Sigewinne asked, looking over her shoulder. She froze as she looked at the man, his knuckles were white and his jaw clenched "yes . . he's been in there since-" she didn't get to finish her sentence as Wriothesley was already heading out of the infirmary.
