Jaeun's POV
I was chilling in my room reading some books when I heard a knock on my door..
Come in! I yelled.
My dad entered and sat on a chair next to my bed
Jaeun-ah you know elections are coming up right? my father Jun-tae asked
Yeah.. why? I asked
Well.. My father began
There was a long pause which i knew that my dad would bring something up that I won't like.
What is it? I asked
I think you're at the right age now.. You're almost twenty-two now. My father said.
What is that supposed to mean? I asked
Well I talked to a few families and well... I think its time for you to get married. My dad said
What do you mean? I asked
Well tomorrow night you will meet them.. we came to an agreement that they help me win the elections in exchange for you marrying their son. My dad said
No! this is ridiculous Dad! I said
You don't have a choice! we already agreed to it! My dad yelled
No dad! this is insane! i don't want to get married yet! plus i don't even know who you plan to marry me off to! I said
Doesn't matter! This is my only chance of winning the elections! Do you want me to lose out on Mr. Lee? My dad said
I huff upon hearing my dad's statement. What am I really? your daughter or your bargaining chip? I yelled out in frustration
You're my daughter Jaeun but please do this for the sake of our family. My dad said
IF I'M YOUR DAUGHTER THEN START TREATING ME LIKE IT! NOT SOME TOOL FOR YOUR OWN SELFISH POLITICAL GAINS! I yelled
My dad suddenly went silent and just glared at me coldly.
Why cant you defend yourself dad? is it because that I'm right that you are using me, Hyunjae and Jisoo as a pawn to your political games? I said
You don't know what you're talking about Jaeun. Everything I did is not for power but for the future of our family. My dad said
So? you think marrying me off is good for the family? then what about me? would i want to be married? I asked
It doesn't matter Jaeun. You're meeting him tomorrow and you better agree to the marriage and that's final. Dad said
Heeseung was right. You guys use us your own children as pawns to your political gain. I said,
and sometimes i find myself wondering why am I even born in this world when literally my only purpose is to be a pawn to your political gains.
You think this is easy for me Jaeun? All i did was for the sake of this family, for you and your brothers. My dad said
For me? what have you done for me exactly? you did everything for yourself. Are you really gonna sacrifice our future and happiness just to stay on top? I saidIts not just about me, Jaeun. its about protecting our legacy, our name. Dad said
So? im not gonna marry some stranger for your sake. I said. Marriage isn't some business deal, and you think marrying me off to someone is something that would benefit MY future?
You don't understand. I am securing your future and stability for our family. Dad said
No dad you're thinking of no one but yourself. I said
This marriage will give you everything. a good future. A life with no worries. Dad said
What about love? i don't love him. i don't even know him. let alone want to get married to him. I said
You'll learn to love him. I promise. Dad said
No. this is ridiculous i am not gonna marry someone for your selfish fucking gains! I yelled
YOU'RE MEETING HIM TOMORROW EVENING AND THAT'S FINAL! Dad yelled and stormed out of my room.
What am I gonna do? this is hopeless. I said to myself
Jaeun-ah? can i come in? my older brother Hyunjae asked
Yeah sure. I said
So sis, what are you gonna do now? Hyunjae asked
I don't know.. I said
Would you meet the guy tomorrow? Hyunjae asked
Yeah. I will. but i don't know how to call off the damn marriage. i guess I'd be stuck with that guy forever. I said laughing bitterly
You like someone else? Hyunjae asked
Huh? no? I said
You sure about that sis. you seem flustered. Hyunjae said.
What? no im not? I said.
You want Heeseun instead? Hyunjae teased.
Who? I asked
Heeseung... Our dad's political rival's son. Hyunjae said
Ayee shut up. I said
Girly girly girl version of me. twin sis. Jaeun.. he's our fricking classmate for 3 consecutive years straight in high school. you guys talk a lot i see you smile a lot around him. Hyunjae said
Thanks for the help bro. I said sarcastically.
Well I'm just saying bro. you and Heeseung look like you guys had something going on. Hyunjae said
He's just a friend. I said throwing my pillow at my older twin brother Hyunjae
A friend. right. Keep telling yourself that Eun eyes don't lie girl. Also he is a really good guy. a really fine one at that. he's really attractive too. Hyunjae said
Bro are you gay for him? I asked sarcastically
shut up girl I'm telling you you guys are a perfect match. but i admit though I'm sometimes quite envious of your guys' chemistry. Hyunjae said
Shut up we don't have 'chemistry'. stupid. i said
Bro. you guys get along to well back in high school that it's starting to feel like there's love in the air between you two. Hyunjae said
Shut up. me and Heeseung don't even talk anymore. we grew apart after graduation. I said
Did you now? or are you scared to admit that you have at least a tiny bit of feelings for him. Hyunjae said
Aye shut up bro. I said
Are you at least gonna try and deny it? Hyunjae asked
I don't need to deny anything. I said
Be honest with me. would you actually plan on pursuing him if you guys haven't drifted apart? Hyunjae asked.
I don't know. I said
You know sis. you should go after someone you like more if you don't want that marriage.Hmm. Hyunjae said
Okay. I will think about it. I said
