Tw: suicide

3rd person pov:

Lance was alright.

He wasn't great, there were no recent victories or discoveries to be proud of, or any wholesome bonding moments to smile about.

He wasn't miserable, he hadn't missed his family so much his stomach hurt as of late, there wasn't any tension between him and his teammates to make the air thick.

Yet as it hit a late hour, and all of the other paladins settled into a peaceful sleep, Lance felt restless. He wanted the outdoors, he wanted to be able to go outside into the fall weather under the comforting shroud of night and go on a walk, have the crickets and the far off droning of cars fill his quiet mind with familiarity. But that wasnt an option.

Lance was in space.

For some reason that conclusion didnt really hurt his chest the way it normally would. It almost concerned him, he couldn't remember the last time the thought of being stuck in space away from planet he loved hadnt almost made him keel over with grief. This stillness was strange.

The paladin decided to get up and walk the halls, it was the only thing to do other than train or bother a probably sleeping teammate. He got out of his bed and went to his door, opening it and peeking out before starting down the long hallway.

Lance needed to think.

Why was there so little going on in his head? Normally he felt borderline manic, either barely holding it together, or on top of the world. But right now he couldn't find a word to describe the stillness of his mind. It started to make him feel almost unsettled, but even that feeling felt far off and faint. Lances mind was somehow racing with questions yet it felt blank- how was that even possible? Everything he started to feel his mind somehow blocked out and left him feeling a haze over the emotion.

This was new. Lance had delt with his strange moods and thoughts for years but this was unfamiliar and foreign. Something had to be wrong, why else would there be this strange shift?

Lance decided to stop in the observatory, maybe he could sit in there and have a little cry session like hes grown into the habit of. For once lance wanted to feel something, sadness, happiness, whatever. He sat in his usual spot in the center of the dome and stared at the sky, trying to conjure some homesickness or something. But there was nothing but stars. Lance continued staring, surprised by his complete lack of reaction. Not a thought crossed his mind besides, "yeah, those are stars." He looked away, now peering down at his own hands. A new thought crossed his mind.

At that moment lance realized he didnt feel anything for his teammates. He didn't feel the usual pride or love or anything. They were his teammates, people he knew he loved, it had always been a fact. But that was all it felt like now. Fact. No emotion told him he loved them anymore. Lance continued to think, never having felt more logical.

If lance no longer felt something with the team did they still have a bond, and furthermore a bond with the lion? He needed to investigate further so he left the observatory and headed towards the hangar to check on blue.

Upon entering the hangar there was nothing out of the ordinary, the lions were all in their designated spots. Lance walked towards blue, but was suddenly stopped by her force field activating. His theory appeared to be correct, his bond with blue seemed nonexistent, he searched his mind for their connection and it was gone. He gave blue a nod and walked away, feeling no different from when he came in.

There was only one thing left to do at that point. Lance knew how serious this was despite being unable to feel worried or identify the cause, he still decided he knew what the best cure for this was.

Lance walked down the hall one more time, finally settling on the airlock. It was finally his time. Without a bond with blue he was out anyways, and with a lack of guilt or fear, lance saw this as the most concise end to it all.

Lance entered the airlock. The doors shut behind him. He stared at the set of doors in front of him and without a second thought pressed the button to open the doors to the outside. A short countdown sounded off...

The doors opened. As lance was sucked out he felt pure terror for a split second, as the air was forced out of his lungs and his body become immobile. But after that moment he felt a pure bliss that faded into absolutely nothing.

Everything was completely quiet.
