Squeaking and hammering of metal was something that started happening. A little curious that it wasn't from Hatsume, but I have learned how much I do enjoy working on items. Probably missed my calling in another life. Although that train of thought would've needed me meeting Power Loader before I was a criminal.
Looking at the helmet laying in pieces, and my energy starting to falter from the lack of rest, I am determined to see it through this second night. Nezu had already departed, I doubt home, but I know to his office at least. The door opens with a little woosh, and I am met with the same girl who doesn't seem to sleep either.
Hatsume: "Still working?"
Me: (Nods)
Hatsume: "You know... one of my-"
Me: "No... already been over this."
Hatsume: (Groaning) "Sooooo boooorrrinnnnggg!"
I just continue working. Thankfully the core of it wasn't damaged, but almost everything in the front screen was, including the emitters. Not being able to get those parts for a day was a nuisance, but thank you Amazon Japan.
Me: (Looks over shoulder) "What?"
Hatsume: "Can I-"
Me: "No!"
Hatsume: (Throwing hands up) "Why? You're hero course."
Me: "Two corrections, not a hero, and that doesn't mean I can't know how to work on my equipment."
Hatsume: "You mean the school's?"
Me: "What do you mean?"
Hatsume: "A lot of the equipment for the hero course is technically the school's property until they graduate, then it is co-owned by the hero and the support company that built it."
Me: "It's mine."
Hatsume: "You built it?"
Me: "The concept and design. I taught myself how to reverse engineer it."
Hatsume: "So who-"
Me: "Can you get back to something more interesting? I need to finish this."
Hatsume: "This is more interesting. And what's the hurry? Not one to judge, but you aren't like me and my class."
Not answering here and shaking my head, she continues to watch me before grabbing one of her own devices to build while watching me more. This continuing on with her trying to get a good look, but to be honest, she probably already knows how to build what she's seen. Those eyes of hers are analytical.
After another dozen minutes, the strain was catching up. I reach for a screwdriver and it falls through my hands. Grabbing my other hand, I back up to calm down before I get frustrated.
Hatsume: "Woah. Glowy hand."
I just stare daggers at her. Finally stopping the glowing I quicken my pace to put it all back together.
Hatsume: "So why is it made out of thin stainless steel?"
Me: "Good question. It just was."
Hatsume: "We have titanium if you're looking for more impact resistance."
Me: "Another day, when I'm not on a clock."
Hatsume: "Then you'll let me t-"
Turning around I hurl a screwdriver and impale it next to her leg in the desk. She finally shuts up, and continues watching. And I am really wondering how she can't take a hint, or just won't accept it. But finally the outer plates get reattached. The helmet lighting on once again when I put it on. The sweet numbing of the pain is gone.
