The sun painted long shadows on the water with its golden glow; it wasn't anything that enhanced the otherworldly beauty of the place, I thought, forcing myself to take a deep breath as I felt the cooling of the evening breeze on my skin. This was where I had met the guardian of the waters, and it seemed like some sort of a threshold, a gateway to deeper mysteries.
"Are you ready for whatever comes next?" Tomas asked, his eyes scanning the water, perhaps sensing something I could not.
"Yes," I said, uncertainty still riding my heart. But there's a part of me that fears what we might uncover.
He took another step forward and reached out to place his hand against my shoulder comfortingly. "We'll meet it together, Lira. Remember what Ines said-in our trueness, trust ourselves. We must believe in our strength.".
The surface of water then ruffled up and became miniscule waves lapping at the shore as I nodded my head. I felt something pulling at me, urging me to look deeper, as if the water is calling. "What if the other guardians are watching us right now?" I whispered to myself. "What if they know what we're doing?
Then we should show them we're ready, Tomas declared with a smirk. Let's not back down now, after all.
Taking a deep breath, we pushed forward towards the water's edge. And then suddenly, before we could sense anything else, a shining figure rose out of the water. It glows, with its form just gleaming under the light. I gasped, immediately reminded of the shining guardian we had met before.
Guardian of the Waters," I said, my voice half awe, half respect. "We come seeking knowledge about the other guardians. We need your guidance."
The guardian looked at us with wise, shimmering eyes. "You have come seeking truths, yet you must be prepared to face not only the guardians but also the shadows that linger within yourselves."
"What do you mean?" I asked, intrigued and slightly apprehensive.
"'This road you are going to tread will not only demonstrate your might and will, but it will also disclose the darkest fears you carry inside you,' the guardian responded, echoing with a gentle wave. 'You have to meet those shadows to be able to really feel your strength, though.'
Tomas looked at me with a glide of worry flowing through his eyes. "Lira, think we're ready for that?"
"I... I don't know," I said, with a nudge of doubt. "But we have to try. We can't turn back now."
The guardian smiled, a soft light illuminating its features. "Very well. Your first challenge lies ahead. Seek the Thief of Shadows. He possesses knowledge that could lead you to the next guardian."
"Thief of Shadows?" I repeated, frowning. "Is he dangerous?"
Many shadows hold darkness, but not all are evil," the guardian replied cryptically. Tomas and I exchanged uncertain glances. "Where can we find this Thief?" he asked.
"In the Whispering Woods, where echoes of the past mingle with the present," the guardian replied. "But heed my warning: the path is fraught with deception. Trust your instincts, and remember what you've learned.".
As he slowly sank back into the depths of the water, I felt a growing urgency in my own self. "We must go now," I said, and with my resolution, my voice had been resolved and determined. "The longer we delay, the farther we drift from the truth."
"Let's move then," Tomas said, taking his cue from me.
We headed to Whispering Woods, whose plenty in tales sounded more mysterious and alluring. The trees grew taller as we walked along. The branches twisted into elaborate shapes and whispered some secret silently. The air was thick with anticipation as each rustle of leaves seemed to echo like the voices of the guardians in my mind.
