It's been a couple days now since the first day of school and I'm starting to accept the fact me and Rafe are over and I think I'm okay with it.

Okay... I've been lying to myslef that I'm okay with it. In fact, it eats me alive. The thought of him keeps me up at night, the way things ended keeps replaying in my head and I just can't accept it. But I didn't get talk to him, nor would I try to talk to him, or tried.
I spotted him at school a few times but I avoided him the best I could. Except today was race day and I wouldn't be able to avoid him there since he's gonna be racing against my brother.
Yesterday when I went to Barry's to pick up my father's order I froze as I arrived in front of his trailer. Rafe's bike. I stood in front of Barry's place for about five minutes, debating if I should go in or not.

"Can I get a beer at least ?" I got chills when I heard his voice, I hadn't heard his since Sarah's birthday party.
I suddenly saw Rafe and Barry coming from behind the trailer, I immediately hid behind a tree making sure no one sees me.
"Sure you can" I could see Barry's grin and then they both disappeared inside the trailer.

Since I reacted that way when I barely saw him I'm afraid how I'll react when I'll see him today.

"Ready?" Kiara winked at me as I've been checking myself in the mirror. I went to her house this afternoon so we could be just us girls for once.
Jj was preparing his bike with the boys anyway.

"I think so" "we won't let him hurt you" she said out of nowhere, probably noticing the worry in my eyes. "He's not gonna hurt me Kie"   I laugh and she fixes her shorts. "Anyway, we're gonna be there for you, with you" she reassures me. "I'm okay Kie but thanks, really" I squeezed her shoulder and pulled out my phone to see what time is it. "It's time" I add and we rushed down the stairs.

"Hey!" her mothers voice stops us from opening the front door. "Mum?" Kiara puts on a fake smile and looks at her, "home by 8" "mum!-" "don't make me argue with you Kiara. Be happy I let you out" she crossed her arms.
I glance and my friend and after a few seconds we finally leave the house and hop into Kiara's car.

"She's insane, I'm telling you Jules that woman's mission in life is to mess up my teenage years" she groaned and squeezed the steering wheel harder. "Kie, you're being dramatic" I giggle and she lets out a loud groan. "Easy for you to say Luke let's you go out whenever you want" she shook her head, "that's because Luke doesn't give shit about his children" I explain, "you're lucky they care...even if they can be crazy" I add and she ignores me.

The parking lot by the beach was almost full. Teenagers were all over the place and rushing to the race start location. "Girls! Yoo-hoo!" John B's voice greets us as soon as we park the car.
"John B" I raise my eyebrows, "where's my brother? I haven't seen him all day" "that's because he's been worrying about this moment all day" John B wraps around my shoulder and his other one around Kiara's. "Let's get some beer shall we?" "we shall" I giggle and we walk over to the beer barrels to serve us some drinks.

"Friends!" Jj walks over to us from the crowd. "Ready to beat some Kooks?" Pope tapped his back and we all laughed. In that moment I glanced over at the left and a wave of electricity rushes threw my body as my eyes immediately lock in with Rafe Cameron. He immediately turns his around and puts his helmet on.
I felt a sharp pain in my chest and I could almost feel my knees weakening.
Jj prepared himself and glanced over at the Kooks. "Tell your man to stop starring" he scoffed. I looked at Rafe who fixed my whole friend group. I could only see his ocean blue eyes through the helmet.

"He's not my man. You say that one more time and you'll have no bike tomorrow" I grinned and he rolled his eyes.

"Welcome to the first race of this school year kids!" said the girl who animated the show. She continued on explaining the path of the bike race and added some stupid cringey joke at the end. "3...2...1...GO!"
