Road Trip/Motel

For Winter and Autumn the weekends meant one thing: their weekly drive through the countryside. No matter how busy they were or how they were feeling they always made the time for their drive. Sometimes they just went around the block, sometimes they went to the next town over. The distance didn't matter, what mattered was that they always used that time to reconnect. They'd speed down backroads with the windows down, the wind blowing their hair all around as they talked and laughed about anything and everything. Being in the car forced them to focus on each other, no distractions. It quickly became their favorite time of the week.

On this particular drive, they completely lost track of time. They took a path they never followed before, driving through new villages and finding beautiful new views. They spent hours stopping at every scenic point and every pull off along the coast to stretch their legs. They laid together in the grass under tall trees and splashed in the water along the beach just enjoying their time together. As the night grew to a close they stumbled upon a gorgeous lookout on a dead end road and decided to sit and watch the sunset before heading back home; extending their night just a little bit longer. Neither one wanted to go home, the day had been so perfect they truly never wanted it to end. They cuddled on the bench as the sky was painted with gorgeous streaks of red and orange, the serenity of their secluded spot making them feel like they were the only two people in the world; the kisses they shared convincing them that in that moment they were the only two that mattered. As the stars finally appeared in the sky they walked hand in hand back to the car, picking the perfect song before speeding back in the direction they came.

Before long, though, their drive got rougher. A minute later, the tire light illuminated on the dash. They weren't far from the next town; so Autumn pushed through, driving very slowly so the tire didn't blow completely. The town they came upon was small, but not as small as most of the villages on the route. There was a service station right along the road that they pulled into right as it was closing. Upon seeing the very obviously flat tire the owner offered to take a quick look before he left for the night. Thankfully it was going to be an easy fix, just a quick patch to repair the area where he found a nail, but given how late it was it would have to wait until the next day. There were no taxis or Ubers that would travel that far out of town and even though they knew Reece would come get them, they didn't really want to. They hadn't wanted the night to end anyway, now it didn't have to.

Thankfully there was a motel in town; it was small, but it would do for the night. The service shop owner gave them a lift, so they all crammed into the bench seat of his old pick up. The small town hospitality was on full display as the man escorted them to the front desk and told the worker to give them his company rate before promising he'd be back just before 9 AM to get them back to their car. The teen behind the motel desk handed them a physical key, something Winter hadn't seen since his childhood and Autumn had never been given at a hotel before, and showed them to their room. It was small and quite outdated, but it was also very welcoming. The owners obviously took great pride in making everyone feel at home. Before leaving them for the night the attendant told them that they were the only guests, so if they needed anything at all she was fully at their disposal.

The couple were completely unprepared to spend the night away from home. They hadn't packed any spare clothes or phone chargers, so after spending just a few minutes getting acquainted with their room they headed back to the front desk to see if there was a shop anywhere close. They found out there was just one about ten minutes down the road. The teen offered to drive them or even just let them borrow her car but they refused. Autumn and Winter would never turn down a nice moonlit stroll. They walked hand in hand following the directions that they were given. It was incredibly quiet at this hour, only the faint chirp of crickets in the distance. The sky was completely clear, the lack of light from the town making it so they could see every star in the sky. The couple took their time on the walk, basking in the incredible calm of the evening. When they came to a bridge over a small creek, Winter stopped and pulled Autumn close, giving her a sweet kiss.
