Theo stared at Emma, his heart pounding as he awaited her response. But all she could manage was a twisted expression of anguish as she murmured, "I'm sorry I couldn't save your mother in time."
For the first time in a long while, Theo felt tears welling in his eyes, streaming down his cheeks like a torrent. The loss of his mother was a wound that deepened with every heartbeat, a pain that clawed at him. He couldn't comprehend the tragedy that had befallen his family. His parents had been good people, beloved in their peaceful community of werewolves. Why had this darkness descended upon them? Why were they torn apart by an unknown force?
"Why? WHY?!" Theo's voice cracked as he squeezed himself to form a protective cocoon against the overwhelming grief. His body convulsed, bones cracking and skin rippling as the transformation began.
Witnessing what happened to Theo, Noah starts to cry and reaches for Emma's hand for help. Emma, her determination shines through her eyes; she tightens her hold on Noah and says, "Noah, I want you to go and run for help while I try to help your brother, ok?" Noah, bewildered about what to do, stays silent in fear; Emma pulls him into a quick hug and says, "Please, Noah, I need you to be brave and help me!" with a gentle push, Emma sends Noah out the door and turns to the almost transformed Theo. Reaching Theo from a distance, Emma quickly casts a spell to prevent him from further transforming and confining his wolf inside. After a minute or two, Theo seemed to have finally calmed down. Taking this chance to escape, Emma gets ready to leave and turns towards the window. Silently under her breath, Emma says, "Goodbye, Theodore Stone." Quickly attempting to jump out of the window before she feels a hand interlace with hers, and with a quick tug, Emma finds herself in Theo's arms.
Eyes almost bulging out of her sockets, Emma quickly pushed against Theo's chest to free herself, but that only made Theo squeeze her tighter. Theo's eyes were glazed over and golden. When his eyes stared into Emma's, it seemed to call out to her. Not just her wolf but a part of her no one should know of; it also called to her magic. Emma's eyes immediately glowed a beautiful blue, and as if she was no longer herself, she did not struggle against Theo's hold and instead allowed their foreheads to meet. When their lips touched, Theo kissed her slowly and softly, but soon, the intensity of the kiss became more heated, like the beast in front of her had been starving for years, hungrily wishing to devour the meat in front of it.
The air between them crackled with an electric tension, the kind that made the world around them fade into a blur. Emma could feel the warmth of Theo's body radiating against her skin, grounding her in this strange moment. His breath was uneven, a mix of urgency and something deeper, something primal. But then, a sound broke through the haze—a rattling doorknob followed by the creak of the door opening. Suddenly, they were no longer alone. A crowd of people stood frozen in shock, eyes wide, mouths agape, all staring at the two of them locked in an embrace. Emma's heart sank at the realization of their audience.
In a rush of instinct, she pushed Theo away, her breath coming in quick bursts as she took a step back. But before she could fully comprehend the situation, a woman rushed forward, tears streaming down her face. "Theo!" she cried, a mix of anger and heartbreak in her voice.
With a swift motion, she slapped Theo across the face, the sound echoing sharply in the tense atmosphere. The impact jolted him out of his trance, his golden eyes widening in confusion as he turned to face her.
"Why would you do this?" the woman shouted, hurt etched in her features before she turned and ran away, leaving a stunned silence in her wake.
Emma stood there, her heart pounding, feeling the weight of the moment shift dramatically. She glanced between Theo and the retreating figure, the thrill of their kiss evaporating like mist in the morning sun. Uncertainty flooded her mind as she processed what had just happened. The connection that had felt so electric moments before now hung heavy with unspoken questions and unresolved tension.
Finally realizing what had happened, Theo's expression shifted to disbelief, then anger. Without a word, he sprinted after the woman, shouting, "Lucy! Lucy!" as his voice echoed down the hallway.
Emma stood frozen, her heart racing. She glanced back at the door, where three pairs of eyes were fixed on her. Noah's eyes were wide, his small hands covering his face in shock, while the other two—older, more uncertain—exchanged confused glances.
