The path to Gabineaux's Bower was a quiet one, though Kiona found little peace in the stillness. The weight of his journey thus far pressed on him, each step through The Twelveswood a reminder of how much had changed since The Calamity. He had been through battles, seen the scars left on the land, and lent his strength to those working to heal the forest. But as the days passed, he couldn't shake the feeling that his efforts were but a small drop in a vast ocean of need.

The forest around him, once vibrant and alive, still carried the echoes of disaster. Every twisted tree, every patch of corrupted soil, told the same story—one of survival, but also of loss. As much as Kiona had done, he knew there was so much more ahead.

When he finally reached Gabineaux's Bower, Pauline was waiting for him, her usual serene demeanor tinged with a hint of urgency.

"Kiona," she greeted him, her tone warm but firm. "You've been a great help already, but I have another task for you, one that requires swift action."

Kiona straightened, the weight of his thoughts momentarily lifted by her words. "What do you need?"

"The hoglet population in Greentear has become... problematic," Pauline explained. "These creatures are devouring every nut and seed they can find, disrupting the natural balance of the forest. If we don't cull their numbers, the elementals will begin to feel the strain, and the cycle of life here will be thrown into chaos."

Kiona listened carefully, understanding the gravity of the situation. The elementals were the unseen guardians of the Twelveswood, and their harmony with nature was vital to the forest's health. Disrupting that balance could have far-reaching consequences.

"I need you to slay six hoglets in Greentear," Pauline continued, her expression softening. "It's not a task I take lightly, but it must be done."

Kiona nodded, knowing that even small tasks like this contributed to the greater balance of the forest. "I'll take care of it."

With Pauline's instructions clear, Kiona set off toward Greentear. The journey was brief, but the weight of the task settled heavily on him. The forest had suffered enough, and while culling creatures like the hoglets was necessary, it reminded him that even in nature, survival came at a cost.

When he reached Greentear, it didn't take long to find the hoglets. The small, wild creatures scurried through the underbrush, their snouts rooting through the forest floor in search of food. Kiona watched them for a moment, his heart heavy, but he knew what had to be done.

Drawing his staff, he called upon the elements, summoning the magic of the earth and wind to strike swiftly and with precision. The hoglets, though quick and agile, were no match for his conjury. One by one, he felled them, ensuring that their numbers would no longer threaten the balance of the forest.

When the task was done, Kiona stood in the quiet aftermath, the weight of his actions settling over him. He knew this was necessary, but the burden of taking life, even for the sake of balance, was never easy.

With a deep breath, Kiona turned and made his way back to Gabineaux's Bower, the forest once again closing in around him. Pauline was waiting for him when he arrived, her sharp eyes immediately noticing the shift in his demeanor.

"You've done well," she said softly, her voice filled with understanding. "The elementals are already rejoicing in the balance you've helped restore. Each small victory like this brings stability to the forest's cycle of life."

Kiona nodded, though the weight of the journey still pressed on him. "It's hard... knowing how much the forest has suffered."

Pauline placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, her expression kind. "It's not easy, but each effort you make helps. The Twelveswood may never be what it once was, but with each step, we bring it closer to balance. And that is something worth fighting for."

Kiona felt a small sense of relief at her words, though he knew the road ahead would be long. Still, he was not alone in this fight, and that gave him the strength to continue.
