Christian's POV :

I was engrossed in my research at the library when a knock at the door interrupted my focus.

"Yes?" I replied.

"Isabella hasn't left her room since yesterday, and now she's refusing the breakfast too," the voice on the other side of the door informed me.

I nodded, even though she couldn't see me. "I'll handle it. Prepare her breakfast and give it to me." I returned to my work, Soon after my attention was soon diverted again by another knock.

I gathered my belongings, closed my books, and made my way to the door.

Maria handed the tray trolley with our dinners, and I headed towards Isabella's room.

I paused outside her door, listening for any signs of movement, but an unsettling silence greeted me.

I knocked twice, but there was no response.

With a growing sense of unease, I pushed open the door to find the room empty and shrouded in darkness.

"She's not here," I muttered to myself, knowing that Isabella's aversion to darkness would never have allowed her to linger in such an environment. A nagging feeling prompted me to check my own room, and I discovered that the door was slightly ajar, with the lights on inside.

It seemed that Isabella had once again taken refuge in my quarters. I sighed, entering the room to find her fast asleep. I set the tray trolley near the nightstand and sat on the edge of the bed, observing her peaceful slumber.

As I began to serve the dinner, I felt her shift closer, and before I knew it, she had drifted off to sleep with her head on my lap. I attempted to gently reposition her, but she snuggled in deeper, making it clear that she was determined to stay put.

'This troublemaker', I thought, shaking my head in amusement. After managing to carefully extricate myself from her grasp, I stood up, only to have her cling to my arm.

"Don't move," she murmured, her eyes scrunched shut. I relented, sitting back down, and she continued to sleep, hugging my arm tightly.

Why do I always find myself agreeing to her whims?

"Ella, wake up!" I said firmly, trying to rouse her from her sleep.

She scrunched her eyebrows and shook her head from side to side.

"Ella, don't make me repeat myself!" She whined and slowly sat up, looking around in confusion, only to realize she was hugging me. She maintained some distance before peaking towards the tray trolley i brought.

"You should eat something," I suggested, pointing to her food, while I took my own plate and sat down on the opposite side of the bed to eat.

Soon she devoured all the food on her plate with enthusiasm and then turned towards me, her big brown eyes conveying that she was satisfied.

I chuckled at her expression, noticing that she had a smudge of food on the corner of her lips.

I got up, gently wiped it off with my thumb, and licked the food off, due to which her eyes widened in surprise, and her jaw dropped in astonishment.

"A mosquito might fly in" I teased, chuckling. She quickly closed her mouth, looking away, her cheeks flushing. "Given the recent threat, I've arranged for someone to procure your essential items, including new clothes and a phone, which are now in your room," I informed her, and her face lit up with a wide smile. "I've called a tailor regarding your wedding dress, he will come tonight to take measurements" I added, and her smile brightened.
