Chapter 14

Finally I'm home.

When I entered the house, I saw my kuya in the living room.

"Oh, kuya, nandito pala kayo! Kailan kayo dumating?" I asked.

"Kanina lang umaga. Napagpasyahan lang namin na dumalaw dito." he replied.

"Ah, ganun ba. Hi Ate Maxine!" I said as I hugged her. "I'll go change first, kuya."

"Alright," he shortly answered.

I went straight to my room to change my clothes. I wasn't expecting them to visit, so I was a bit surprised. After changing, I quickly left my room and headed to the living room to join them.

"Kuya, kamusta na kayo? I wanted to visit your house, pero wala akong kasama," I said. I also noticed that Ate Maxine's baby bump was pretty noticeable now.

"Ayos lang kami. By the way, balita ko nahimatay ka raw? Is that true?" my kuya asked, glancing at me.

"Kuya! I'm fine, don't worry about me!" I replied, walking closer to them.

"Anyway, we're having a masquerade ball this Saturday! Kailangan namin ng formal clothes and nice masks. Excited na ako!" I said, feeling so excited.

As we continued talking, we decided to just hang out for a while. We settled on the sofa, ordered our favorite food, and chatted about everything that had happened recently. It was such a carefree and happy moment.

The next day, I prepared for school, excited to meet my friends. When I arrived at school, I went straight to our classroom. While walking, I noticed some college students staring at me. Why were they looking at me? Did something happen?

I decided to ignore them and just continued walking.

When I entered the room, the girls in my class were all staring at me. I had no idea what was going on, but their looks made me feel like they wanted to devour me.

Kahit sila Frea ay tinitingnan ako. Nalilito na ako. What's going on ba talaga?

"Bakit ganyan kayo makatingin?" i asked them, filled of confusion.

"Ang blooming mo,gurl." Irene said,and smile but teasing me.

As the bell rang, we settle down before the teacher enter the room.

The first period ended, and I wondered why Matteo still wasn't there. Maybe Mr. Cruz had already returned.

"Seah! Matteo is looking for you at the faculty." one of the students called me from the doorway.

"Really? Why?" I asked, feeling nervous. Could this be about the lesson today?

He didn't answer me, instead he turn his back and walked away.

I headed to the other building, and once again, college students were staring at me as I walked by. I slowly walked towards the faculty room, unsure of what to expect. Why did Matteo call for me? My mind was filled with questions. Was he already there waiting for me? What would he say? Despite all the uncertainty, I knew I had to go.

I reached the faculty room and peeked inside. There he was, resting his elbow on the table, waiting. When he saw me, he smiled immediately. His eyes were mesmerizing, as if saying more than words could.

"Seah!" he called out, making my heart race. "Come in."

"Um, yes? Why did you call me here?" I asked, still confused.

"I need to ask you something," he started, looking like he was thinking about how to phrase it.

"Uh, okay. Is this about the lesson?" I asked, still trying to figure things out.

"To be honest, no. I just wanted to know if you have a partner for the party," he asked. At that moment, everything seemed to stop as my mind struggled to process his question.

"Partner? Wala, eh," I replied, feeling my heart race with excitement and nervousness.

"I'd like you to be my partner. If that's okay with you?" he asked. My cheeks immediately flushed.

I quickly tried to think of what to say. I didn't know how to answer him. "S-sure, Matteo," I said, almost out of my mind but excited at the same time.

"Pwede kana bumalik sa room mo." he said, full of energy and a smile in his eyes.

"Huh? Pinapunta mo'ko dito para tanungin lang?" I said, feeling a little stiff.

"That's exactly why. So you can get to know me!" he replied, staring at me with sincerity, like he really wanted me to understand him.

"O-okay!" I said, still distracted by the party preparations. "Then, I'm off."

I smiled at him, "Is that all?"

"Uh, yeah. Tell them na Vacant nyo ngayon." he said with a grin, but his gaze still lingered on me as if he wasn't ready to let me go.

I couldn't even speak because of the intensity of his stare. Why did I agree? Why didn't I say no? I asked myself. It felt like I was someone else when I was around him. Argh, here I go again! Matteo is messing with my head.

I returned to the classroom, my heart racing with both excitement and nervousness. We were going to meet later, and I didn't know how I would handle it. What if Manong Gilbert picks me up early? Despite all my concerns, I felt like there was a light of hope between me and Matteo. I wanted to know him better, and I also wanted to show him who I really was. The excitement for the party seemed to be growing with every passing moment.
