The car ride was tense for Sengchanh. All she could do was listen to music and gaze out the window, trapped with the thoughts she'd been avoiding. Was it really necessary to bring him up? It hasn't even been a year since we ended things. I didn't even get to say goodbye properly. She sank deeper into her seat and pulled her phone back out.
She felt a whirlwind of emotions. Not only had she just lost her grandma, but her best friend hadn't been there for her either. While she knew her family loved her unconditionally, she also understood she could never share her deeper feelings with them. As she stared out the window at the beautiful scenery, Frank Ocean came on her playlist, and tears began to fall. Luckily, she glanced to her side and saw her cousin fast asleep.
Feeling overwhelmed by a surge of emotions, the girl pulled out her phone and started texting her best friend. It was a way to distract herself from feelings that would eventually consume her if left unchecked.
