Cassidy Montez was born on the 25th of December, 2003 to Gabrielle neé Stephenson and Terrence Montez. She was a mostly quiet baby for the first year of her life, however, soon into her second year, she made coos that sounded like she was singing. The home was flooded with love and laughter, living next door to Terrence's best friend, Ray Molina.
Ray had a daughter with Rose named Julie Molina who had been born a year after Cassidy. Julie was a happy baby, cooing at everything and anything. She and Cassidy ─ even with the year difference ─ were the best of friends. Some years later, Ray and Rose had their second child, Carlos Molina. Both Cassidy and Julie dotted on the baby boy, who in his toddler years chased them around.
Julie and Cassidy shared a love for music, the Molina girl was quick to pick up on the piano while Cassidy learnt how to shred on the guitar. Rose and Gabrielle ─ the best of friends ─ had encouraged their daughters passion for music. And with the friend they made in Flynn Taylor, the trio was known as Third Verse ─ Flynn's name choice. And they would rock out together to songs they wrote or heard on the radio.
Their love of music lead to them joining the music program in high school, a strict program that required participation and a performance assessment to keep your spot. The three best friends had been ecstatic when they were accepted into the program together, a promise made between the three of them that no matter what; they had each other's backs. It was absolute paradise.
But paradise doesn't last forever. In 2018, Cassidy's father, Terrence fell ill and soon enough, he said his final goodbyes. It was a tough time for the curly-haired girl, she was heartbroken over the loss and couldn't bring herself to find the passion she once held with music. Thankfully, Flynn and Julie were right by her side every step of the way; Cassidy soon found that beat in her heart and kept the promise she made.
Gabrielle and Rose did all they could to help the girl feel connected to music again and just as she found that spark, Rose Molina passed away. Only a year after Terrence, the Molina's and Montez' were saying goodbye to the woman who had built a spark in all of them. Her death hit Julie hard, the girl couldn't even bring herself to listen to music voluntarily. She and Cassidy bonded over parental loss but unlike Cassidy, Julie couldn't find that connection to music again.
Without her duet partner, Cassidy's love of music dwindled to simply playing guitar with no lyrics, no backing track and no duet partner. It had been just enough to keep her in the music program. But that time was coming to a potential end when Mrs Harrison informs her that she needed to wow Principal Lessa if she wanted to keep the spot.
But her life is about to change drastically when a single "9-1-1" text from Julie leads to her meeting three special people who will be the guiding lights within their darkened nights. And one in particular will stand out to Cassidy, with a charming smile and an adorable personality; the embodiment of a puppy.
Can this bassist remind her why she loved music to begin with?

Wasn't entirely sure what to put in the prologue, so hopefully this builds some insight into Cassidy's life.
