"ZARA.."
The booming voice pierced the air, slicing through her distraction and grabbed her attention.
Upon hearing his peremptory tone, she relinquished her domestic duties of kitchen and hastened upstairs.
She swiftly ascended taking long strides and stood still infront of his room. The scene inside was frightening. Everything was disorganised, Abdullah, the loyal servant of Zaidi was standing there like a fish out of water and her Shahveer Malik was seething with anger. His ire was palpable as he traversed the room.
When his eyes fell on her, he yelled out of frustration, "Why are you standing there like a robot? Come and help me find the red file. Don't know where these damn things are gone. I have an important meeting and the time is running ou----"
His rantings came to a halt as Zara presented the red file, drawing his attention.
His features contorted in bewilderment. Where did she find it within a second?
"Wo..Sarah Malkin asked me to keep it there..in the bed shelf." She reasoned and he nodded taking the file from her.
As she saw him leaving the room in hurry, she called timidly, "Malik you..your lunch?"
"Is it ready?" He queried, urgency edging his words.
Her expression crumpled into an apology as she shook her head. Fear of his displeasure mad her throat dry. She was not feeling well, so today she was late in getting up in the morning and somehow managed to prepare breakfast for three Zaidi brothers, Shahveer, Dilawar and Momin. Thank God all the elders of house went to Lahore otherwise she would have been doomed today.
"I'm getting let" Shahveer said and again made his way downstairs.
Zara came running behind him and apologetically told that whenever lunch's ready, she would send it through Abdullah.
Shahveer stopped dread in his track remembering something and turned around to face her.
"No. Not Abdullah, you will come to my office with lunch."
Hearing him her eyes became two round orbs of shock. Her ocular expression conveyed profound astonishment.
"Me! How? Why?" She mumbled, unable to form a proper sentence.
"Because Abdullah is unwell" He informed nonchalantly.
Again confusion took all over her expression. Abdullah is unwell?
She looked behind her and saw Abdullah coming towards them, totally fit and fine.
"Abdul Chacha, aap bimar ho?" She asked, confusion yet concern dripping from her words.
[Abdul uncle, are you unwell?]
"Hum bimar hai?!" Abdullah asked with great uncertainty, getting the new piece of information about himself.
[I'm unwell?]
"Tum ho bimar Abdullah. Yaad karo" Shahveer gave Abdullah a tight lipped smile, his eyes narrowed silently threatening the poor man to accept that he was sick, even though it was a big lie.
[You are unwell Abdullah. Remember]
Abdullah scared about the consequence of disobeying his Shahveer Malik, nodded his vigorously.
"See. Your Abdul Chacha is unwell. Aur bimaar log toh Ghar se bahar nikal nahi sakte itni dhoop me, toh tujhe hi aana hoga." Shahveer said pretending to be sorry as her expression told she would pass out any moment.
